This Q hasn’t been asked since 2010 and we’ve got a lot of new Jellies, so I think it’s OK to ask it again.
Also, did your taste in cereals change since you were a kid?
Even when I was little, I liked the healthy cereals like Bran Flakes, and Grape Nuts, and Wheat Chex, but I also liked Apple Jacks, and Trix and Captain Crunch. These days I really don’t care for the sugary cereals. I never, ever liked Frosted Flakes, it just tasted like pure sugar to me.
Right now my favorites are Raisin Bran, Grape Nuts, Kix, and Shredded Wheat.
What cereals are your favorites today, and are they the same ones you liked as a kid?

I’ve recently discovered Mom’s Best Cereals which makes versions of our childhood favorites with real ingredients, not artificial and processed stuff that has made the same cereals we loved as kids taste nasty to me in their current forms. I bought them for my son, and he loves them, because he’d never had the REAL sugar versions of these things, and I have a bowl every now and then, too. Sure, they’re not exactly healthy, but they’re less unhealthy than the other stuff.
I went through a lot of phases with cereal. I love Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, Crunch Berries, Quisp, Cinnamon Life and Frosted Mini Wheats. My son’s favorites were Fruit Loops, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Pebbles and Lucky Charms. I eat mostly organic cereals and granolas now – Cascadian Farms and Nature’s Path. I like nearly all of them. I’ve always been a cereal fan.
Steel-cut oats…best and only.
Honey Combs cereal, and Frosted Flakes .
Oats, with milk and either raisins or brown sugar. Porridge is great, too. Other than that, I like plain cornflakes and Rice Krispies. I also eat Zwieback with milk, which is delicious, but seems to be difficult to find in the U.S. (and the world in general). Here’s a picture.
@hearkat I’ll have to check out those Mom’s Best Cereals. Sounds intriguing. Like you, I am a cereal lover. I often have it for dinner with buttered toast and a glass of orange juice. Maybe that’s what I’ll have for dinner tonight!
@gailcalled I used to like oatmeal, but when my doctor told me I had high cholesterol (despite being a vegetarian, Mom has it too, she’s not a veg, he said it was hereditary, Dad is not a veg and eats lots of meat, cheese and dairy, and doesn’t have high cholesterol go figure) I purposely changed my diet for about 3 months to see if I could bring it down with just diet and no pills. So everybody said eat oat meal. So I ate oatmeal every morning for breakfast for 3 months, then got my blood checked again. No difference. So I had to take the pills. Since that little experiment, I’ve not eaten much oatmeal. It’s not even that I don’t like it, it’s just that I ate so much of it, that I just want anymore. Although I do make and eat oatmeal cookies : )
Your answer reminded me me that I used to love me some Cream of Wheat when I was a kid. I haven’t had any of that in a long time.
Oh, I also like Peanut Butter Puffins
Cold: Ezekiel 4:9 Cinnamon Raisin
Hot : Wheatena
Unsweetened almond milk on both.
I stopped eating cereal after having weight loss surgery. I could eat it if I wanted, but it tends to make me gain weight. My favorite one was muesli. The famous brand, I forgot what it was. It had a strange name, Swedish word I think it was.
Also I have Froot Loops more now that I know that I can eat them with water and I don’t need milk.
bagged cereal since I longer trust the boxed brand names.
Flakes of Corn & Beetawix
@sakura: Yes. That stuff is sooo good. I recommend trying it!
I also like frosted mini wheats. Again, I don’t buy them now because they’re full of carbs, but I have fond memories of them. I used to put the milk on them and let them soak it up, so it would be like a mush.
Grape Nuts, Shredded Wheat, Cream of Wheat and Oatmeal, all holdovers from childhood.
Special K with strawberries.
Froot Loops
Right now I am loving Post Great Grains Cereal. Specifically, the Banana Nut Crunch and Pecan Crunch ones. I eat all cereal with unsweetened coconut milk.
Oatmeal crisp triple berry… is my favorite new cereal.
frootloops. I eat them in the night. wish I had some right now nom nom.
