Have people stood by their boycott of JC Penney because of Ellen DeGeneres' spokesperson position?

Asked by Aster (20028points) August 28th, 2014

A lot of people threatened to boycott Penney’s when they heard a lesbian would be the new spokesperson. Do you think they stuck to their decision or were they just making a statement? Did Penney’s go downhill as they had predicted?
I want to say I think Ellen is one of the sweetest, most soft hearted people in show business.

I honestly did not even know there was a boycott going on.

I’m a current-events junkie, and I hadn’t heard about this boycott until now. Most likely, a small fringe group proposed the boycott, nobody paid any attention, and the same group backed off when faced with such widespread indifference.

I don’t think I’ve ever shopped at JC Penney. If Ellen is the company’s new spokesperson, I just might find a store and spend a whole lot of money there.

That was a year ago. I don’t know of any American that has an attention span that long. People today jump from one “outrage” to another “outrage” almost weekly.

JC Penney has been on a downhil slide for many years long before Ellen was involved with them.

But it couldn’t have been that successful a boycott if so few people are even aware of it.

It’s ridiculous.

I have actually bought more from them since she became a spokesman. Not specifically because of her, but because they fired that idiot CEO who came from Apple, and went back into the retail busines.

They got the idiot CEO who came up with a brand new sales strategy – no more sales, no coupons, just low prices every day. That lasted about 9 months and then sales hit the floor and he was out. During that time, I went to their photo place (where we always get great portraits of my daughter) and the place was totally dead, even at the holiday season.

Ellen would be the least of their problems – she’s great and he was an idiot.
