You may find this helpful. I use it all the time.
Western? As in Mountain? Or, Pacific?
I use this site for time zone information.
The differences can change a lot during the fall/spring time change, since our summer is their winter and vice versa. It can be hard to keep track.
One reliable method is to simply type into Google: what time is it in South Australia?
What does summer and winter have to do with time zones?
@JLeslie Really? You must know this.
At the end of the summer, we “fall back” by an hour. At the end of the winter, we “spring ahead” by an hour.
But of course, Australia “springs ahead” around the time that we “fall back”, because we’re in different hemispheres. So the amount of time to add or subtract is not constant between our continents all year round.
To make matters worse, we do not even do the time changes on the same dates.
@dappled_leaves Oh, daylight savings. Only some parts of Australia observe it. I’m pretty sure most of Southern Australia does. There are a few states in America that don’t, as you probably know (I think you are in America?). When you google current times the world clock takes that all into account.
@JLeslie Yes… that’s why I suggested Google in the first place.
@dappled_leaves I know what time it is in South Australia. I have a skype call planned and wanted to know what time here I should call there. Thanks, all.
@trailsillustrated Gotcha. The Google search works both ways, of course, and then a simple subtraction would get you there.
Failing that, there are lots of time zone converters online. Just plug in a city and time for the time zone you know, and a city for the time zone you don’t, and it will calculate the time for you. This one and another random one I tried gave 11:30 am.
@dappled_leaves you are spot on. Knowing what time in would be in tassie, thanks @johnpowell, i know we are half an hour ahead of hobart. Timed it perfectly!
