If you can have the power to kill by thought, would you take it?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29194points) September 3rd, 2014

Kill, not injure or move objects. If you use it, someone dies either human or animal.

For example, if an ISIS fighter threatens to behead a prisoner on TV, would you use your power to kill that executioner-?

No. Way. Much too scary.

cheebdragon's avatar

Fuck yeah! I would probably use it on a regular basis….starting with the people on my shit list.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

It depends on what safeguards I can have put in place.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

No, I would not. But I’d play act like your thought weapon killed me. Then when you thought I was dead, I’d jump up and scream “YahaHHaaKK” and scare the shit out of you and your silly punk ass death thoughts.

Buttonstc's avatar

Sure. Why not. If I’m ever in danger from a mugger or someone trying to rob my house, it would work better than a gun.

I certainly wouldn’t be using it often but it would sure come in handy and could potentiallybbe lifesaving.

Why would I turn that down?

LuckyGuy's avatar

I’d take it! There wouldn’t be a squirrel or chipmunk within a mile of my house.

ibstubro's avatar

Yes, but only if it was difficult to use. There would need to be some sort of ritual involved so that it was a process rather than a random whim.

That’s a great idea, Luckyguy! Can I rid the area of possums in mass, or would I have to start staying up late, feeding them, and pick them off, one at a time?

SadieMartinPaul's avatar

No, and for all the same reasons why I’m so anti-handgun. It can be difficult to stay calm and rational during a nasty confrontation or unfair treatment. I truly wouldn’t want to leave a body count every time someone offends me.

Oh, who the heck am I kidding?!?! I’d love to have that power! That former colleague who blatantly lied about me, made my job untenable, and derailed a 16-year career? Gone. My ex-fiancé who expected me to cure him of his denied homosexuality? The world’s a better place without him. My in-laws who mistreat my husband and dislike me because I refuse to be bullied? Sayonara.

dappled_leaves's avatar

Of course not. And those who say they would probably wouldn’t, either.

cookieman's avatar

If it works on mosquitos, I’d be all over it.

Oh goodness Yes!

I keep framing this question around Putin. I’ve been thinking about would I kill him or not, given the power. Would it put Ukraine in chaos, ending Russian dominance, or destabilize Russia to the point of nuclear annihilation.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

You freakin bet, the world would suddenly only have top notch drivers, the morons would be outta here!!!!!

mazingerz88's avatar

@ibstubro Interesting. I think any person who in one way or another would be stupid enough to launch or detonate the first nuclear warhead should be stopped.

cheebdragon's avatar

@mazingerz88 Deer eating begonias? Im pretty sure begonias are poisonous.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

No, I could not live with the stench that would be the byproduct of it.

longgone's avatar

Even if I was mugged, I wouldn’t want to be using it. Give me the power to paralyse others – anytime. But murdering would put such a load on my mind, I think I’d rather be dead – and of course, in dangerous situations, I wouldn’t be able not to use my power if I had it.

ucme's avatar

No, because I couldn’t take it back & a rash, snap decision would be irreversible.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Never. I don’t want that kind of power.

jungle_girl's avatar

Nope, I`m not a sociopath.

mazingerz88's avatar

@cheebdragon Pink begonias-? I don’t think so. They keep eating em.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Just looking back on the handful of times I was angry enough to kill…well, thank God I don’t have that power! And that’s all I have to say.
