Have you ever witnessed paranormal activity while staying in a hotel?

Asked by OpryLeigh (25310points) September 12th, 2014

Hotels see many people come and go and as they age they often become the location of many a guest’s eye witness account of strange goings on. Some may even have a resident ghost with their own story that more than one person reports seeing on a regular basis.

Most recently I was reading about the Congress Plaza hotel in Chicago. I didn’t stay there but was very interested in the tales of ghostly sightings etc.

Have you ever stayed in a haunted hotel? Did you witness anything personally? Did you know that the hotel had a reputation for being haunted when you booked your stay?

I’ve never had any experience like that. I’ve stayed in some very old hotels, some were easily over 100 years old.

Where I live some symptoms of hauntings are an indication a sink hole is about to open up under the structure.

I have never witnessed any paranormal activity. That includes the movie franchise.
I have seen UFOs, though.

I recently had a room booked at the Congress Plaza over Labor Day weekend when we took our daughter to see 1D, but decided to cancel and stay at the Hyatt instead. I thought it would be neat to stay in a known haunted hotel. I don’t believe in ghosts, but the stories fascinate me. My daughter thought it would be a fun experience.

I changed my mind after reading many negative reviews. I read that the beds are very uncomfortable, the walls are thin and you can hear the people next to you and in the hall, the water pressure in the showers are terrible and it takes forever to get hot water, the hallways smell and so do some of the rooms and the rooms aren’t very clean. There were so many negative reviews. I didn’t want to take the chance of having a bad experience, especially since we rarely get to vacation. I wanted a pleasant experience.

So no, I haven’t stayed in a haunted hotel, but I would like to visit one if I get the chance. I’ll probably give the Congress a chance, but not after standing on my feet all night listening to 50k girls screaming for a boy band. A person needs comfort after that experience.

Last year I traveled to somewhere in my country. We stayed at a big hotel. The hotel used electronic cards as keys to open rooms, and the rooms were always locked. There was nothing out of ordinary about it, except there was an abandoned room on one floor. The door was always open, unlike other room, and the room looked more like a storage than a hotel room. And the room was next to our room.

One night when everyone was asleep, I woke up for the bathroom. The room was pretty dark and the only light came from the streetlight. When I got up, I saw a shadow on the wall. It was not my shadow: it was bigger and looked more like of a man. At first I thought it was my father. I turned but dad was still lying. When I turned back, the shadow had gone. The next day I realized that the abandoned room was locked.

Maybe it was just some coincident, but it kind of freaked me out. I didn’t tell anyone about it though.

I’ve stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego where the ghost of Kate Morgan is rumored to dwell. I was so bold as to knock on the door of the room where she stayed. Alas, the only weirdness was the fact I had interest ;-)

I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels, since I was in the business for 30 years, including five as an inspector. Just about every hotel has experienced (or will) a death. None of my co-workers have ever mentioned witnessing any paranormal activity. Nor have any of the hotel employees we’ve met.

The only hotel I’ve stayed at that is supposedly haunted is The Seelbach Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. Their Lady in Blue ghost makes for an interesting story, but I found the hotel’s history of hosting famous guests, like F. Scott Fitzgerald and Al Capone much more fascinating.

I was staying in a hotel in London whilst on a short family break, I was 14 & slept in a room with my elder brother. Apparently a naked young woman knocked on our door but we slept through it, knocking my Mum & Aunt up in the adjacent room who passed the news onto us the following morning.
Not a haunted story I know, but boy, what a missed oppurtunity :(

No but I and a few other went to a Cemetery and took photographs, we weren’t the only ones in the photos.
