Here is a resource for aluminum ones you can purchase. This company makes theirs out of plastic.
Also, they are available used at several locations in the U.S.
im on a water ski team and one of the teams we do competitions with has their dock floating on these
but the sides are covered so you dont see those, and they dont have handles, they are older and more plain, but thats the basic idea
I have friends that use these, but I don’t remember what company. They have Jet Skis and one of those Jet Ski powerboat things… Anyway, they work really well for that purpose, and seem easy to assemble and use.
I would go with Mariana’s sources I have a boat in Maryland and they use the plastic floaters for there docks. I think plastic would be better, because I have known people that had the aluminum and they had to replace them after a while. The plastic ones are said to last much longer, and are easy to disassemble and take out for cleaning purposes if ever you found the need.
I’ve seen plenty made of 55 gallon drums. However, they need to be scrubbed pretty thoroughly to get whatever icky stuff they had in them completely out. They also want painting with a good marine enamel otherwise they become a rusty eyesore.
Thanks for the good suggestions.
@knotmyday: do you know where to get these 55 gallon drums?
Junk/scrap yards are a good bet. They’re also a good place to get tetanus, so be careful. ;^)
@waterskier2007: Do you know where I can find those floats?
no, but im going down to that ski site this weekend where they use them. ill try and remember where to ask. i would check for places that you think might use them for storage and see if they have old ones
