Unless I’ve misread your question, I don’t think that’s “being in denial” – I think that’s “having a grip on reality”.
Oh mean something like when Republicans say they actually care about the poor?
@dappled_leaves I interpret the question to mean have you ever kept believing something was true when you knew it actually wasn’t?
@Adagio I guess I just don’t understand the question. If the OP meant what you suggest, then why isn’t the question simply, “Have you ever been in denial?”
Being in denial is always about believing something that you know isn’t true.
Or when liberals just “know” their view is the only correct one and that “republicans” are the spawn of satan in human flesh?
I’m neither in case you were curious
I’m not sure of your exact meaning, either.
The only example I can think of is being consciously aware that (for example) someone close to you dies, but you keep referring to them in the present tense, starting to call or write to them before remembering that they are gone, making plans that you then realize can’t come to pass. I have done this, on some level, a few times.
Yeah, the question doesn’t make logical sense to me either. It would be good to reword or add details.
Is it possible to believe something is true when you know it is not? If so, I’d like an example. If the question is “have you ever acted in a way or taken a position which defies the truth?” the answer is a resounding “All the time”. Anyone who buys a lottery ticket, fires up a cigarette, binges down a pint of ice cream, or takes a drink—we’re all guilty. And regarding the Republicans as spawn of the devil, if only it were that simple.
Perhaps the OP is conflating “being in denial” with “being wrong”.
@hominid Just calling out B.S. It’s my job.
