Gay college student in my 4th year majoring in civil eng heading to USA. Is it better to transfer to computer science field etc.?

Hey guys, it’s my first time to raise a question here and thanks for your attention:)
I’m a Chinese college student in my 4th year majoring in civil engineering. Unfortunately, as a matter of fact, so far I haven’t figured out a field which I’m totally into. I don’t hate civil eng., but don’t totally love it as well.
It is hard being gay in China. People know very little about LGBT people and generally fail to take it cool, which probably is one of the reasons I’m heading to USA. LOL.
So here’s the thing, I heard that students majoring in computer science &other fields related to computer are more likely to get a job in USA, and these fields are technically more friendly to gay.. Is that true? So do you guys think it a good idea for me to transfer to computer fields? And what do I need to do to make this happen?

I would recommend that you only switch majors if you have a preference for one field over the other, and ignore the LGBT issue entirely. As far as I know, neither of these fields is known for having a particular attitude about this.
Have you already applied to an American school? If so, contact them directly about switching majors if you want to. If not, simply apply to whichever one you prefer.

I am in the UK rather than the US so I don’t know a great deal about the employment situation over there but I doubt that you would have difficulty finding work in the civil engineering field in the US. You’re already in your 4th year so I think it would be a shame to switch now and waste everything you’ve learned so far.
My advice would be, go to the US and finish the civil engineering and then maybe study something computer-related afterwards, as a higher degree.
I agree with @dappled_leaves , I don’t think either one of these professions is more LGBT-friendly than the other.
You should also check where you are going; the east and west coasts of the USA are more LGBT-friendly than central and southern states. Look on a political map that divides the states into Republican (red) and Democrat (blue) – and head for a blue state.
Both are in high demand, you actually can’t go wrong either way. There is plenty of room in geotech for someone with both civil engineering and C.S. skills. I will say that you are more limited in Civil Engineering as to where you work. Go ahead and finish it up since you only have a year to go. Any reputable employer here does not care about your sexual orientation.

Being gay shouldn’t have anything to do with it. Gay friendly or not, the ratio would generally be the same in any field so don’t put that aspect in the mix. It would only be an issue if you made it one and that is a non-friendly confrontational attitude to have.
I do not understand the question.
@SecondHandStoke OP is saying that because he’s gay he wants to leave China to study/work in the USA and he wants to know if the IT field is more accepting of LGBT people than the civil engineering field.
