What is a bigger fashion faux pas? tights with a hole, or tights that don't match the outfit.

we’re talking brown on black. and moderate hole on upper outer thigh, but no run. this is serious business.

Where is the hole?

Ah, now i see – I think the hole is less of a faux pas.

Ew. Unmatching is worse.

I’m surprised people still wear tights/nylons. I haven’t had a pair since the green and black striped ones I wore in high school. Maybe its just because I live where the weather is pretty much always nice.

Otherwise, I’d notice if the tights didn’t match the outfit before I noticed a hole.

I could forgive unmatching, but the hole sends a sloppy message. What else does this person not maintain or clean . . .

Agree with @Marina. It could be the person is color-blind and therefore not able to make good color decisions. A hole trumps color-blind issues.

judyprays it sounds like you’re describing Britney Spears!

Your options:
*Hole: Looks messy, cheap (as in too cheap to buy a new pair), unprepared. You can work your look around it by going for the messy, punk-ish look.
*Clashing colour: If you’re trying to go for simple, classic look and do it with clashing colour tights, you’ll look either colour-blind, clue-less or horribly off in your styling sense. The work-around for this is that clashing colours are all the rage at the moment (bright yellow tights with hot pink skirts, etc.) and you could aim at a super trendy look by deliberately clashing colours and reflect it in some bulky accessories (lots of different bangles and fabric or plastic necklaces and earrings).

colorful tights the rage? Only in Japan, those Harajuku Girls. Google the “Fruits” book- thats all you see is the crazy colorful tights. And holes in tights? Only acceptable at a pink show. :)

oops! Edit: punk.

Hmm….must be a euro-trash thing then. I’m seeing these styles everywhere at the moment…

in the first link i don’t see bright colorful tights at all? The girls wearing black leggings/tights and the guy is wearing red jeans. But seriously, I’m on my phone and can’t send a link buy check out the crazy Japanese fashion. And the second link isn’t working, its just going to the website.

I used to rock the colorful tights with skirts.. But that was the 10th grade (i wore a lot of crazy shit in the 10th grade..)

again, maybe I’m focusing on the wrong things in the shops and on the streets, this is just what I’m observing…

TheHaight's avatar

I see what you mean. Maybe I’m just thinking of the wrong thing- I’m thinking of the colorful tights. Bright purple, big bird yellow, green, etc. And judyprays and you are talking about darker colors.

tights in general are a fashion faux pas in my opinion,
but wear whatever you want to wear….

Why not go for the third option and pick up a new pair on the way to the meeting?

(admittedly I am bloke so you may just want to ignore any fashion advice you get from me)

good point from my roommate: matching is disputable while no one would disagree about presence of a hole.
