What is your favorite terrible movie?

Asked by Pol_is_aware (1807points) September 30th, 2014

Some people thoroughly enjoy when a movie is exceptionally bad. I am definitely one of those people. Troll 2, Toxic Avenger, Surf Nazis Must Die are a couple of my favorites.

My birthday is in a few days and, as a tradition, I take the opportunity to force all of my friends to watch another terrible movie. This year I’m having trouble picking the right one. Any suggestions?

As someone who also enjoys horrible movies sometimes, I’m always on the lookout. I haven’t seen it yet, but there’s one on Netflix that caught my attention called Grabbers: “Residents of an Irish island must get very drunk to survive attacks by alien monsters who can’t tolerate a high blood alcohol level in their victims.” I’m hoping it’s sufficiently horrible enough for me to laugh at a lot.

Movie 43 An all-star cast in a movie that is complete rubbish.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

It’s so bad that it’s good. To me it’s how you mix seriousness and humour together, then leave them half-mixed. When the movie tries to be serious it ends up making me laugh. And the movie’s intention is to be pure serious.

Waerworld or Rocketman both slightly redeemed by being seen in drive-ins.

I have many terrible movie favorites, but I guess my favorite favorite is Plan 9 From Outer Space. So terrible it is, in fact, that I can’t stand to watch more than a few minutes every time I decide to re-watch it. (The movie about the making of Plan 9 and its famously weird writer/director, Ed Wood, is pretty bad, too, but it has a lot of great stuff in it, including a haunting scene in a bar in which Ed Wood (Johnny Depp) has a brief conversation with Orson Welles (Vincent D’Onofrio).

Happy birthday to you. Mine is in a few days, too.—Oct. 7. And I too will be doing something traditional… fretting about my age.

Another vote for Plan 9 From Outer Space. Horribly bad doesn’t begin to describe it.
@trailsillustrated The movie you are thinking of is Always.

Without doubt, it is Black Sheep, which is hilariously funny.

The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes unwatchable but fun to think about. Hilarious cult film or worst movie of all time? Take your pick. 4.9 at Imdb.com

Attack of the killer tomatoes is good. Revenge of the killer tomatoes. And brother from another planet. pootie tang. Space balls. Army of darkness.

The Village.

Pol_is_aware's avatar

@Araphel I thought The Village was legitimately good.

@ragingloli From the flips I’‘ve seen of Samurai Cop, it’s amazing.

@janbb Waterworld has a special place, because it was also one of the most expensive movies ever made

@Pachy I watched basically all of Plan 9. I enjoyed it, but I’m looking for something thats a little easier to watch/not watch and be entertaining.

It’s Alive!, (the original, but I doubt the remake was any better), or any of the Beverly Hills Cops movies.

I second Pootie Tang. Wah da tay.

@Pied_Pfeffer Movie 43 is a work of genius!

Postal by Uwe Boll

I know a lot of people say it’s tasteless, and it probably is. I find it to be a decent satire.

Pol_is_aware's avatar

Yeah Pootie Tang is badass. I flipped out when I found out it was written and directed by Louis C.K.

Araphel's avatar

Looks up, The Village had its good points, maybe if I see it again ill feel differently.

Pol_is_aware's avatar

@Araphel A lot of people hated the twist, but I thought it was a one-of-a-kind film

When my kids were growing up, I would have a mini film festival of movies with a similar theme or commonality.
One year, I showed them the 10 worst movies ever made.
They included:
Plan 9 From Outer Space
Glenn or Glenda
Billy the Kid vs. Dracula
Santa Claus Conquers The Martians
The Conqueror
Robot Monster
They Saved Hitlers Brain
The Beginning Of The End

What was the name of the movie in which a space ship that has visited another planet (or the moon or something) explodes on re-entry and the astronauts arm goes around killing people? That was pretty bad.

Araphel's avatar

Looks up, that may have been Ghost Of Mars.

Attack of the killer tomatoes.
