Has anyone ever left his old place of work(not been fired or leaving on bad terms)and returned there after some years?

I am not talking about fighting with the boss and leaving. Perhaps it was due to a move or a change or something that made you leave for a while and then go back again after some time. In short, have you ever knocked on the same door again? How was the return, did you notice changes?

In a way, the answer is ‘yes’. While working at one hotel, I was offered a regional position with the same company. When that job was eliminated, I worked for two other hotels (again, same company) before returning to the first one.
The return was easy as I was still in-the-know about company changes made over that time-span. The challenge was to integrate back into hotel’s culture without causing any waves. There were many staff changes, including a new general manager. It was just a matter of sitting back, observing what was better and adopting it.
Yes, I went back to my old high school job briefly after graduating college for the first time. I needed flexible hours and a small income while hunting for a real job. That was understood when retaking the old job.
Sure. I quit a job with a good employer in 1991 because I was going to have to be doing too much traveling on my own and leaving a young family at home. We parted on good terms. A little over ten years later I returned, and I now work in the main office for the same company. (Well, two changes of ownership later, but still… same people, same products, same industry.)
Once, a long time ago. I had been doing research at a university, in a small department (astronomy) where everyone knew me. I took a few months off to have a baby and then a year off to stay home with him. Then I got rehired part-time…a dream job. It was called WAE…When Actually Employed. I could work any hour of the day or night that suited me and submit my hours at the end of each week. The second time around was exactly the same as the first since the scientific project was the same, and we worked at the speed of humans, during the pre-electronic era. I wasn’t paid much, but at that point my partener had a good income and the benefits. Being in an academic community had, for me, terrific perks as well.
I myself never did but the company I retired from had a policy of rehiring employees who had left in good standing What I observed was, many of these returnees stayed for years and prospered, but more of them wound up leaving again within months.
I have a couple of times. It has never worked out for me, Even returning twice after maternity leave wasn’t great. I now have a “Never go back” policy…
