Have you ever taken part in a school event?

Asked by imnottellingu (493points) October 8th, 2014

My school has certain events like college colors day (where you wear your favorite college colors), hat day (wear your favorite hat), and opposite day
Have you ever had events like these? If so what were they? Did you participate? Please include all the fun details.

I was in track and volley ball, in HS.

In college I participated in a Renaissance fair. That was fun!

I don’t remember anything like that at school but we have them at work, once every couple of months or so. They’re always for charity; if you dress in theme you have to donate £1. I always do. The best one was when we all dressed as pirates for Dress Like A Pirate day a couple of years ago. Also for the World Cup this year each department was given a team from the competition and we had to not only dress in theme we decorated the office too. Our department got England, I dressed up as Doctor Who (okay he’s not even from Earth!) and our department got the prize for the best display.

I was in the Marching Band and was in a couple of plays when I was in High School. Big Zippo in College, with the exception of weekend drills and AT for Army stuff. I did a lot of support for things my son did while he was in High School. Moved instruments while he was in Marching Band, helped build sets for his drama. I got tired real fast, but I was always there.

I was in theater all through Junior High and High School. Also in Concert Choir that entire time. I always loved when we had “spirit weeks” and had days to dress up. I almost always did those. Ever Friday was “red and black” day as those were our colors.

I’d always forget dress down days when they had them in high school. It didn’t matter to me anyway—they cost $5 and the proceeds went to the school most of the time anyway, not even a charity. Of course, you also risked getting in trouble for an infraction of the wacky Catholic school dress code. I remember one homeroom teacher would stand outside the door of her room with the pink slips in her hand and inspect every student as they entered.

Middle school I played all the sports except football. In High School I was big into track, I was also F.F.A. president. In College I was an officer in the IEEE and in the Ham Radio Club. I also participated in showing high school kids around on career days. As for silly “whatever the flavor is” days, no I sat them out usually.

Yeah. The farewell prom for final year students. It was held for final year students but anyone in the chool could join. We dressed in our best clothes and did many things: dancing, taking photos, chatting, watching the music show… There were some “loverbirds” who officially declared their love there too (that’s right, we could no longer see each other in a few days). I could spot some teachers too, and that was one of the rare moments when we could casually talk. There was some food, but it was the last thing that came to everyone’s mind at that moment. When the principle announced that the party was over, everyone hugged each other and cried. We exchanged wishes and farewell, as if no one wanted to leave. The prom was fun and heartbreaking at the same time, lots of laughter and tear.

Yes, we had Red and Gold days, we’d get out of the last period ten minutes early if we wore red or gold.

But most of that kind of stuff wasn’t popular when I was a kid. My kids had something at least once a month: crazy hair day, twin day, purple day, etc.

This is homecoming week at my daughter’s high school; they’ve had something every day, but my daughter and her friends (who are good kids with good grades) just roll their eyes and consider it stupid.

Both my kids encountered this kind of thing in school. My daughter thought they were fun and would participate in whatever they had (silly hat day for instance).

My son thought they were “stupid” and refused to participate. This from the same kid that spent his entire Sophomore year in high school wearing Hawaiian shirts every day no matter what the weather. An Aloha shirt over a thermal top looks a little strange. He had a grandmother who thought it was cute and provided him with new (used) shirts on a regular basis.

One day , when my son was a sophomore in HS, he appeared at the bottom of the stairs wearing a skin tight, ankle length, grey wool skirt of mine, and a blouse. He had on a bra which he stuffed. He had on make up. He completed the ensemble with a pair of army boots. He is quite tall and slender and handsome and he carried it off well, IMO.
I started laughing and said, “WHAT are you doing?”
I guess it was dress opposite day at the HS, and that’s what he put together! I can’t believe I didn’t get a picture of it. SMH. He was and is so dang self confident!
