The snake.
No arms, no legs, yet they can move about everywhere just fine.
They can see in infrared.
They can eat things whole that are bigger than their head.
Many can use chemical weapons to kill their prey.
Grizzly bears. They are apex animals, plus they’re cute.
The Mexican axolotl
So cute, and they have the ability to completely regenerate any dangling limb.
Wow @jonsblond! Thanks for the find! That’s just fascinating.
I could never pick one as the best, but tardigrades are really interesting.
Tardigrades can withstand temperatures from just above absolute zero to well above the boiling point of water, pressures about six times greater than those found in the deepest ocean trenches, ionizing radiation at doses hundreds of times higher than the lethal dose for a human, and the vacuum of outer space. They can go without food or water for more than 10 years, drying out to the point where they are 3% or less water, only to rehydrate, forage, and reproduce.
@jaytkay took my first choice so I’ll give my second choice: Euglena .
It has chloroplasts so it can feed like a plant. But, in darkness, it can take in nourishment like an animal covering both ends of the spectrum. It has flagella so it can move and light sensing capability so it can orient itself to find the best light source.
Birds
They can fly, end of.
Unicorns. They’re all, like, glittery and stuff. Plus, they’re real friendly.
My vote goes to Hallucigenia, which lived during the Cambrian.
Dolphins, they are graceful, intelligent and gentle enough to be hugged and kissed.
Tardigrades look like sea cucumbers with a vacuum for a face. They are tiny, and can survive in outer space and freezing to boiling temperatures.
Wickedvamp. She’s the most astonishing creature I’ve came across in this world or any other world.
My fault. I didn’t specify. I kind of meant a species, rather than one individual.
Nice sentiment though.
<<< The wonderful thing about Tiggers, is I’m the only one…
