Is Fluther just another online forum for arguments about things?

I have spent about 20 minutes reading Q&A’s on this site and almost all of the answers have been a thread of arguments back and forth. I was hoping that this would be more like Yahoo Answers.

Of course not. It is not like Yahoo answers because there is such a great sense of community and well, it’s Fluther. If you were hoping for Yahoo Answers then go and use Yahoo Answers.
The slogan here is ‘You ask a question. We get it to the right people. Everyone discusses the answer.’ That way people can provide helpful answers but also have a discussion about it, as long as it’s on topic. Therefore the answers you get are so much more rich and insightful than those on Yahoo Answers.
Now I’ll wait for the better Flutherers explain this in a much better way
I am more than happy in every thinkable way that Fluther is nothing like yahoo answers.
There is comunity, discussion, and people who care about what they are doing.
The point of Fluther is “You ask a question, we get it to the right people. Everyone discusses the answer.” The idea here is not so much a simple question/ answer scheme, but a forum for everyone to speak his/her mind regarding the question at hand. So a question like “Which presidential candidate should I support?” will get responses from all sides, and yes, there may be some disagreements. But isn’t that healthy? If you want Yahoo! answers, go to Yahoo.
edit: Shrubbery and I were on the same page here.
What’s wrong with arguments about things? (And isn’t your question intending to sort of…start an argument?)
Lol niki, you beat me to it! Damn it!
: D
what’s wrong with having an argument? Why should everyone have to agree with each other? We are not sheeple
exactly niki, arguments can be healthy, and sometimes produce the best answers.
I haven’t seen too many arguments. Different opinions and discussions, yes – but not arguing. Maybe I’m missing something.
Never challenge the Fluther…
I fall down daily on my knees and give thanks that this is nothing like yahoo answers, which I hate. If this was like Yahoo answers, I would not be Fluthering.
Fluther: Come for the answers, stay for the people.
Great answer Marina! Although there is differences in opinions, Fluther is awesome. I sometimes read a question, have my own stubborn opnion, and at the end of the day see things in a different light. Sometimes it reinforces what I had been thinking. This group id full of very different people from all walks of life. What a great scenario for learning! Thanks guys!
I would not want this site to be a simple yes/no answer place.
As the others have already said, Fluther is a discussion communtiy. When people discuss things, they don’t always agree. It’s a great way to look at a subject from many angles, and learn something new. Fluther is nowhere close to being another Yahoo answers, and like Marina, I wouldn’t be here if it was.
We have over 10K members here, and yet it feels like I am spending time with my family while I am here. Like any family, there can be squables from time to time, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look past them for the greater good. I don’t think 20 minutes was long enough to get a good grasp of what we do here. Stick atround and get to know us. You’ll be glad you did. But if you are looking for another Yahoo Answers, this is not the right place.
Yep, Short and to the point! Good job cheeb!
I´m rather new to fluther, and what I see is a very fascinating combination of an everchanging knowledgebase and a social network. It´s no static encyclopedia. It´s live discussions with live people. Thinking people who like to share. To me that´s great!
Yes, it is.
No, it’s not!
It is too!! so THERE!! lol!!
You are both wrong!!!
But then what’s the answer?!?!
hmmm, I guess we will have to discuss that! Do you think we should ask Yahoo??
Their heads might explode, as there is no definitive answer!
Ha ha!! now THAT would be some yahooligans!
@breedmitch For you Howard. xoxo Betty
I love this place! <sigh of contentment>
