Broccoli tastes better with dip than as Chinese food but not by much.

I don’t, I eat what makes sense. Some food is healthier raw some is not. Some of it tastes like crap raw some of it does not.

When I was eating more raw, never 100%, I just was eating a lot more salads and fruits than my typical diet, I lost weight, felt good, except I bled every time I had a bowel movement. I just can’t eat a lot of raw veg like that.

Every so often I eat a bunch of salads in a row, or eat more nuts than I should, and the same thing happens every time. It takes a few weeks to heal again. Eventually, one day, God forbid, I will be ignoring cancer symptoms for weeks because of it. I have had polyps since my early thirties and com cancer in my family, so I need to know if I am having cancer symptoms or not. Raw food in abundance makes me unable to know if I am in danger.

If you can kill the bugs on raw food that might make you sick, it’s not a concern. I have friends who do exactly that. Here’s how they do it using food grade hydrogen peroxide:

Food Preparation

24. Vegetable Soak

Use as a vegetable wash or soak to kill bacteria and neutralize chemicals. Add ¼ cup 3% H202 to a full sink of cold water. Soak light skinned (light lettuce) 20 minutes, thicker skinned (like cucumbers) 30 minutes. Drain, dry and refrigerate. Prolongs freshness.

If time is a problem, spray vegetables (and fruits) with a solution of 3%. Let stand for a few minutes, rinse and dry.

25. Meat Sanitizing

You can also use it to rinse off your meat before cooking.

26. Leftover tossed salad

Spray with a solution of ½ cup water and 1 Tbsp. 5%. Drain, cover and refrigerate.

27. Marinade

Place meat, fish or poultry in a casserole (avoid using aluminium pans). Cover with a dilute solution of equal parts of water and 3% H202. Place loosely covered in refrigerator for ½ hour. Rinse and cook.

28. Sprouting Seeds

Add 1 ounce 3% Hydrogen peroxide to 1 pint of water and soak the seeds overnight. Add the same amount of hydrogen peroxide each time you rinse the seeds.

@snowberry Do you worry about sanitizing fresh vegetables? Illness from fresh veggies is pretty rare unless there has been cross contamination.

nebule's avatar

I’ve always assumed that raw food is the best kind of food for us… everything as close to it’s natural state as possible. I hear that a lot… but after reading @JLeslie comment, I’m not so sure…

JLeslie's avatar

@nebule It’s just me digestive system doesn’t do well with hard veggies. Especially brutal are carrots, celery, even romaine lettuce and iceberg. A lot of people have no trouble.

snowberry's avatar

@JLeslie I was adding perspective to @osoraro‘s post. The main objection apparently is for bacteria. Food grade hydrogen peroxide will even kill e-coli.

I don’t use the food grade hydrogen peroxide, but it’s not a bad idea. I’m not into all raw food anyway.

@snowberry I wasn’t trying to be argumentative, I was just curious. Fresh veggies and fruits are eaten regularly by the majority of the population I would think, so I found it curious. The only veg that I personally am wary of eating raw is mushrooms, but people do it every day.

I worry a about bacteria on uncooked mets and fish myself.

snowberry's avatar

@JLeslie I didn’t take offense…Peace!

osoraro's avatar

Agree with @snowberry. The risk is contamination. If the bacterial count can be decreased, then it’s probably fine.

JLeslie's avatar

Typo: mets should be meats.

I love raw veggies and will eat nearly any of them raw (including mushrooms). Obviously some things don’t work so well and if something is better cooked I’ll cook it. My digestive system has no issue with any raw veg and I don’t sterilise any of it first (though I do sterilise work surfaces and am more careful about cross-contamination where food isn’t going to be cooked).

syz's avatar

Extremism in any form is bad. Some raw foods are probably beneficial, but requiring an all raw diet is silly. (And who wants to deal with the gas?)

Coloma's avatar

I agree with @syz and also…be very careful about raw nuts, especially sunflower. I was on a raw kick a year or so ago and I OD’d on raw sunflower seeds. I was SO sick and bloated, I felt horrible for days. Raw sunflower seeds are extremely hard to digest. If nature wanted us to eat all raw we would have been born herbivores and not omnivores.

Quite frankly, whoever decided to roast that 1st Mastodon steak made a giant leap for mankind. haha

Disease : Salmonellosis

Causes : Poultry, eggs, meat, meat products, milk, smoked fish, protein foods, juice

Disease : Vibrio Infection
Pathogen : Vibrio parahaemolyticus,Vibrio vulnificus bacteria
Causes : Raw shellfish, oysters

Disease : Viral Gastroenteritis
Pathogen : Calicivirus virus
Causes : Water, ready-to-eat foods (salad, sandwiches, bread) shellfish

Disease : E. Coli
Pathogen : Escherichia coli bacteria
Causes : Undercooked ground beef, imported cheeses, unpasteurized milk or juice, cider, alfalfa sprouts

These are some disease caused by raw food or meat make sure whatever you are eating is hygienic. Recently theory proved that when you are washing meat or vegetables there are changes of infections caused by the pathogens on the raw food. Use sanitizers before and after touching raw food.

Come on people, our bodies are the product of the earth and the earth itself is quite capable of sustaining it and did by providing what is necessary for its sustenance without help of fire.

Cooking the natural occurring food is detrimental to the food and the body.

Worst than this is the eating of meat.

Anybody with some common sense will see the sense in this.

I am not very strict on eating only raw food , but I will not live in denial of its benefits, nor the of harmfulness of rendering the food that I would eat useless by cooking.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@kess “Worst than this is the eating of meat.”
Except for the fact that Homo sapiens are omnivores….

kess's avatar

@El_Cadejo yes true but does the fact that that human beings are also classified as murderers is also relevant.

osoraro's avatar

@kess No, it’s not relevant. It has nothing to do with raw food.

kess's avatar

Since your thoughts are you yours you get to decide what is relevant.
If you were able to see the relevancy then you are also able to justify it.

I will say is that you will see, when you, see if you want to see…

But meat tastes really good!

osoraro's avatar

@RocketGuy If God hadn’t wanted us to eat animals, why did he name them “meat”?
