Would your pet cat defend you if you are attacked?
We all believe that dogs would, but what about cats? What about other animals? Would a horse, or a dolphin, or a bird?

Hell no. Chloe is a selfish bitch, as most cats tend to be.
She would still be sleeping on the chair where she spends nearly 100% of her day at the moment, if she was disturbed by any ruckus she would hightail it out of the room as quickly as possible. Expecting a cat to defend one is plain and simple delusion.
Hell no. Our cat hides whenever our dogs try to protect our daughter from being tickled. The commotion is too much for our precious kitty.
Probably not. I’m sure my cat would watch me get murdered only to go and beg my murderer to feed him :P
@El_Cadejo No more or less than I would expect from any self-respecting cat, they know what side their bread is buttered. : ^)
This is the sort of question, that forces me to face the fact that I am avoiding a productive life. The only consolation in reviewing the answers is that so many of us here still have some grasp on objective reality.
I have had cats in the past, even though I have no pets now. I have had cats be very protective around me, and one old grey tom cat used to do patrols of the property. No dogs dared try to do any business on my lawn. He sent them all running with tail between the legs. I had another which used to sit on a patio chair on the porch. If strangers came by, he dispatched them quickly. I never had salesmen drop by when he lived with me.
Way back in the day, I had a boyfriend who ended up a jerk. My cat knew all along. Every time he came to visit, my cat would sneak up behind, and dig her claws deep into the seat of his pants! I had to start shutting her in the bathroom when he came by.
Not all my cats were like that. My last cat used to jump up on the toilet seat everytime someone flushed. She would cry and cry like we had drowned a friend or something.
@tinyfaery – super videos! The last one made me scream, with disbelief. That was a bear! The cat did not care.
Actually, I did have a cat that attacked a small dog that was just being friendly and jumping up on me. One day, I was visiting with my neighbor and another neighbors small dog came over to me, the little dog was all happy, friendly, wagging its tail and jumping on its hind legs. My cat was on the porch and came flying off of it, started attacking the dog and chased it away. That happened a number of years ago, the cat is now deceased but he was a fighter and a protector.
