Any ideas for films related to workplace diversity or discrimination?

Asked by answerjill (6198points) October 22nd, 2014

So far, I have The Associate, North Country, and Philadelphia. Do you think these could work for a class on diversity in the workplace? Other ideas? Thanks.

Mad Men. Not a film but it certainly covers discrimination.

Made in Dagenham is an excellent film about women fighting for equality in the workplace.

What are the lesson objectives? Knowing those could better help us pick out movies or scenes to support them.

If you want a tried and true video regarding discrimination, any of Jane Elliott’s work. Here is one that targets racism.

Bound for Glory, about Woody Guthry, is a good film but it might not be considered entirely about discrimination and diversity.

Flashdance. A woman is a welder, and seems to be accepted there. She is also a dancer, and must break through social barriers to be accepted with the ballet.

Can school be considered a work place?
If so, A Smile As Big As The Moon is a very good story with a valuable point, or four.

Outsourced
My boss thought of that one. I haven’t seen it yet.

I got it mixed up. The movie is called Outsourced India.

@Pied_Pfeffer – I am teaching a course called Multiculturalism in the Professional World to a bunch of undergraduates. Really, Diversity in the Workplace would be a better name.

The Movie Crash is a good example of that.

One could make the argument that Blazing Saddles fits the questions criteria.

Of course you’ll have the decency not to mention that I answered this question…
