What are some free screenwriting softwares?
I want to write a script but it’s such a pain in the ass to do it on Word due to the strict formatting. I searched to see if there was such a thing as software designed for writing screenplays, and yay there is! But I keep running into ones that say they’re free but it’s really just a 30 day trial or whatever.

CeltX is a free screenwriting software package that works perfectly fine as a free download. If you want some additional bells & whistles, their writer’s pack costs about $15, but, again is completely optional.
Despite being free, CeltX is a dream to use because it does all of the formatting grunt work as you go, leaving you to keep track of which scene component you are composing next, and the text (or information) that comes next. Within a scene, once you establish a dialogue chain (in the form of CHARACTER NAME, dialogue . . . hitting enter automatically toggles between the character name and dialogue.
I have used it off and on for years, and I love it. Another benefit is that it comes with the standard formatting conventions preinstalled for screenplays, stage plays, TV scripts, and, now, novels. Thus, no matter what kind of script you are plotting, it will format it the proper way. The direct link to the desktop software is https://www.celtx.com/desktop.html.

I’ve never bothered to use macros for Word, but. .I kind of just want to forget about Word for a while. Word is just. . .Word is. . .ugh. I don’t even want to deal with it anymore.
I hear Final Draft is the industry darling, several screen writer and directors swear by it, could not locate those, but in an update I could.
