Would you say that 30 active members is approximately what Fluther has now?

I’m looking at the most recent “Welcome to the Mansion” party which has 29 responses on it. Would you say that’s an accurate way to figure out the total number of active Jellies right now? Maybe a few extras added on for those who may be on vacation or have just not checked in for a few days?

I’m here. I just skip the parties of people I have had no contact with. I still would like my party when I get to 20k ,but I want to have people give me some insight into myself.
I think there are probably lots of lurkers that no longer participate as actively as they once did. hard to say, sometimes I miss a party for a few extra days or longer. I’d say it might be a decent medium to ascertain the more active members but not all the unspoken lurkers.
I think fifty might be closer. Just a matter of defining “active”.
I think there are definitely more than that, I’m sure Phi would have a much more accurate answer though.
FWIW I avoid those “party” threads like the plague.
I’m not much of a party animal these days. But I do usually congratulate the new mansion arrivals.
Wow. Never thought this would be a question and have never imagined the collective to be so small and squishy. I haven’t been active for… ages. But, joined in December 2010 and there were loads of jellies then. Does anyone still lose things in the frizzer…?
@auntydeb Yeah, plenty of stuff gets lost in the frizzer still. But if you go past the pancake party and look left as you pass the salt and pepper, you can still find some [redacted].
I’m a lurker. I don’t have too many questions on my mind these days and darned if I know the answers anymore.
I generally skip those parties myself. You also won’t see me in TJBM threads.
I only occasionally see things in meta. But I am here most days unless I am on vacation.
I don’t do parties or games. I’d still say the active community is rather small, maybe 50–75?
Maybe @johnpowell can tell how many jellies are active. I still remember his post statistic board that day.
I think I missed it, @jca.
Once again the problem lies in defining “active” re: @Buttonstc
I’m active, but I am new. Do I count, or do I have to pass initiation first?
@jerv: I also avoid the TJBM stuff, too.
@Here2_4: You absolutely count. You’re a welcome addition to the lagoon. Your multiple posts prove this. To subtract your efforts as a Jelly would only serve to divide us.
I don’t usually go to those parties either. And I never play TJBM. I guess I’m just not a playful person.
The drastic decline new Fluther members came about when the site no longer showed up near the top of internet search engines for related topics. After that, existing members dropped out for a variety of reasons, including the owners and designated manager. Some older members became cranky regarding repeated questions and were vocal about it, thus scaring away new members.
While not a pessimist by nature, the writing seems to be on the wall. Unless the existing members encourage new members and are willing to solicit Fluther, the site will eventually have the plug pulled. Even that romantic thought may be a stretch.
Here’s an idea – how about if each Jelly gets 5 people to come check out the site? No quotas, no way of telling if we did or didn’t, but if we all try for 5 (and some may get more and some may get less or none), then maybe things will improve.
I pick and choose the few people I tell about this site, because I don’t want people to figure out who I am and thus have access to all my intimate secrets, desires, fears, thoughts, ramblings, etc. However, I’m sure if I look at just my FB contacts alone, I can come up with 5 that I can say “hey, there’s this site and it’s really fun, you can ask anything, you can answer anything, anything at all from technology to etiquette to work issues, cooking, politics, sex questions, whatever. You can participate in debates.” That’s how I usually describe it to the few I tell about it.
Maybe a notice on a college Bulletin board?
@Pied_Pfeffer “The drastic decline new Fluther members came about when the site no longer showed up near the top of internet search engines for related topics.”
I wonder if we could do anything to improve the search engine optimization, and get an organic flow of new members going again?
I might also mention fluther in another online hangout.
I’ve been trying to fire members up on this point for weeks, months, years!

I’m going recruiting. I am sure there are nerds, geeks, intelligentsia and culturati out there just waiting to get down, dirty and very wet in the pool of knowledge and genial jellyality that is Fluther. Will report back, perhaps…
Phoo, haven’t caught anyone yet. Still trying though.
