A family member is about to begin a specific treatment as part of a trial, for malignant melanoma (nodular) which has metastasized to his liver, lungs and stomach. The drug to be used is already being prescribed in the US, but has not yet received NICE approval here in the UK; although it seems that it will be made available from February 2015. Information given so far suggests that the drug has had very good results in the US, if suited to the patient, with extended life expectancy and quality of life. Just wondering what it might be and happy to research further. It is not appropriate to pursue the information from family members right now as things are a little sensitive. Thanks to brainy jellies x

I’m not sure if this will help your relative, but I remembered hearing about this new trial while I was up North. They’ve discovered a berry and have trialled injecting melanomas and other cancers with a compound from this berry and are claiming good success. They’ve published results from their studyhere.
I don’t think this will be useful for your relative.
I’ve been researching and come up with Keytruda (pembrolizumab) which might be the one. Key comments from rellys and those closer to the treatment have related to it being used with considerable success in the US. All will become clearer at the end of this week, thanks to those of you who have read and thought about this.
Debrafenib and Tetrafenib, he went from death’s door to decorating his living room inside ten days. Modern medicine – yay! eh? Thanks for comments, this question is now answered.
That’s great news @auntydeb. Thanks for the update.
