Do you skip the singing in church and show up late?
I hope that I am not the only one that does that. The music really bugs me. My soul is my own and i’m not giving it away to the Devil or God. Some of the lyrics are scary.

Personally I skip the whole thing!
Hm. If I went to church, I would arrive on time so as not to disturb others.
Unless no-one notices? Though that is hard to imagine.
Singing occurs at many times in a Mass (a Catholic worship ceremony). They even name each time a song occurs. And there’s a song at te beginning of Mass and at the end of Mass, so there’s really no way of avoiding it. I never sang since I don’t like singing although I loved the music. Nobody seemed to mind unless it was a Mass at my school.
If I was of a religious persuasion that would compel me to go to church, I still would stay at home, because sleeping and playing games is such a better use of my time.
When I go to church, I show up a few minutes early to have a few moments of quiet time for reflection.
I used to go to a church that had music I didn’t like all that much. I found a different church.
Roman Catholic sing at the beginning, middle and end, so it wouldn’t matter. I was also in choir when I was a teen. Best part of church for me. However, our songs aren’t all doom and gloom. They are actually uplifting. At least the ones I’ve ever heard. Sometimes the preaching is doom and gloom depending on the priest, and I wish there was a way to skip those.
I happen to think mass should be uplifting and bringing us closer to understanding God and getting us to live a loving life and spread Jesus love. Not stab a cross in people head.
It should be like dieting. You don’t tell an overweight person they are fat and going to die and every misery they suffer they earned. You would show them ways to improve their health and diet and cheer the on their journey and offer support even when they slip. You would point out their unhealthy diet may have consequences but you offer to be their for them and show them all the benefits to eating well.
I would skip dooms day services and songs as well.
I don’t mind the hymns, but the 45 minute rock concerts at the beginning of some church services where less than 10 lines are repeated incessantly are disconcerting.
Some churches don’t sing. Don’t feel bad about skipping the singing. Do what you want as long as it doesn’t disturb others. If I was your minister I would not care that you came late, I would be pleased you showed up late or otherwise.
I skip all of it. As for the times I’ve gone, the music was the only part that wasn’t mind-numbingly boring.
“My soul is my own and i’m not giving it away to the Devil or God.”
Erm…and what religion do you profess to belong to?
@talljasperman Not going to quibble with that statement ^^ but if so why go to church?
@zenvelo Because I am bored and lonely and I might learn something. I don’t go to church except when they have a special event like the movie “God is not dead.” Maybe I will make friends.
I’m sure your question is directed at non-Christians too, and I have to say that at the Temple I attend I’d have to show up after the Shabbat service ended in order to skip the singing. I don’t think I’ve ever attended any Jewish place of worship that do as much singing as this one!!!
I skip the church and keep on singing. off key
Does God respond to karaoke then?
Maybe churchgoers should try interpretive dance, or perhaps the nasal flute, as a means of spiritual contact.
