Do you use Fluther as pseudo-therapy or as a sounding board?

Asked by zenzen (4087points) November 9th, 2014

Do you prefer being anonymous here and thus allowing yourself to be (almost) completely honest, or, do you reveal yourself (either with your photo and/or personal info) preferring to Fluther more casually?

There are very rare occasions where I wish I could ask something anonymously (but I know what kind of negativity that would bring to the site), but for the most part, I’m pretty open. I have a personal philosophy that involves being as honest as I possibly can, with everyone, and owning who I am and what choices I make in life. That said, there are certain things I don’t freely or easily reveal about myself, but that has more to do with some personal issues, rather than a fear of being “found out”.

Like many other sites, I prefer to be anonymous. I do reveal about myself, but I only reveal what can be revealed. I make sure that no one really knows who I really am or at least what I look like.

I am pretty anonymous here, although I have connected with a couple of jellies via FB. It’s not therapy in any way shape or form, I don’t compartmentalize my life in that manner. My openness here is consistent with how I am in real life; I stay in persona here though so that I don’t have to worry about people who don’t like what I say.

I use it as a sounding board, but don’t really reveal yself except to the real-life friends I have made on Fluther.

I just like bouncing things around mostly. There isn’t enough therapy for my psycho brain. :) And I’m not hiding here. There are a lot of jellies that know how to get ahold of me.

I have gotten more private here as the years have gone on. My real life connection to the Founders and their connection to my kids has made me less likely to ask questions that are deeply personal. Also, the composition has shifted and some of the Jellies I was closest to are no longer active. I did use the site a lot when my marriage first broke up but even then was cautious as revealing too much. I do still have some Jelly friends that I talk to privately.

I am friends with many Jellies on FB but even there I will only post positive things.

I use fluther for amusement, stimulation, entertainment and, occasionally as a sounding board.
Mostly I just like the mental stimulation and amusement factors.

The picture is me-although by now it is about 5 years old, and I was about 10 pounds heavier (P90X, fewer carbs)

I deleted my personal info a while back because I was not certain I would get back and I was sort of creeped out by the thought of it just sitting there with no connection to anything.

Haven’t gotten around to putting it back up. Maybe I should…

Certainly do not use Fluther as therapy.

Not much. Tend to get flattened if I do.

I use it as a hallucinogenic.

GOOD answer! A stroll into the Twilight Zone!

I was talking to Seek on fb. We were talking about the weather, how it suddenly got cold.
She wrote “I walk outside and I don’t want to die.” Not sure if is was a mistype or what, but I said, “It’s much worse when you walk out side and you DO want to die! Then you have to go to fluther so they can talk you down.”
She said, “Or push me over the edge!”

I am very open about my life here on Fluther—I’m equally open with close friends in real life. I feel like I’m a ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of person.

When I was in a bad marriage a few years back, Fluther was definitely my support system and integral in getting me out of that dark place. Now, it’s more of a place I come to enjoy myself with the friends I’ve made here. (hug, hug!)

I use Fluther for amusement. I try to keep my details here pretty vague. I wouldn’t want someone from work, a family member or friend to come here and figure out who I am. I tell few people about Fluther for that reason. The ones I do tell are ones I don’t know that well, who it really wouldn’t matter to me if they figured out “hey, I think that’s ____!” Otherwise, I post my opinions on here pretty honestly and those things are not necessarily what I want people in real life to know about me.

I’m friends with a bunch of Jellies on FB. It’s nice to know that if Fluther ever is discontinued, we’d be in touch till death do us part LOL. They can see what I do for a living, see photos, see whatever I post there. I consider those Jellies to be friends and would love to meet any and all if I ever had the opportunity.

I’ve been gone a bit, but when I’m here I prefer to fluther anonymously. I would consider being outer-fluther friends with a few people on here, but most I’m afraid of. The way they speak on here will be the same in person, and I just can’t handle unkind people.

I do. I realize that is probably irritating for some, and isn’t what the site is really for, but Fluther has helped me out a lot over the years, and I’m grateful for that.

Nonetheless I have my picture up, but I do consider myself “anonymous” here in the sense that nobody from “real life” reads what I write here, so I feel free to say what I want.

Sometimes it is for fun, sometimes because I am bored and at other times to get a few opinions regards a matter.
