Best motorcycle insurance provider?

Asked by Spargett (5398points) July 11th, 2008

I’m about to get a motorcycle. I currently don’t own a car either, so I don’t have an existing insurance company.

I was wondering if there is a specific company you would recommend for insuring a motorcycle and why?

FYI: I have a perfect driving record

I recently went through the same thing. Best thing to do is to get quotes from 5–10 places and see who is the cheapest. Unlike car insurance motorcycle insurance will vary vastly between providers. Age and location will have different effects with different providers. My motorcycle is insured with progressive as they were the cheapest for a 20 year old in Philadelphia, they may not be the cheapest for you.

There are several companies who provide only motorcycle insurance, and supposedly they have good rates, but I didn’t get any quotes from them that were any better then the mainstream insurance companies.

Also keep in mind you want an insurance company that will be easy to deal with in the event you have an incident, so the smallest motorcycle only insurance may not be the best idea.

If you or your parents were ever in the service, you are eligible to get into the USAA bank and insurance service. I have to say it is a wonderful company, always very accessible and friendly, and excellent rates.
