Can my spouse elect to sign up for the spousal benefit if the monthly benefit would be less than if she filed under her earnings?

Asked by DavidRuhnke (5points) November 28th, 2014

My monthly social security payment is $2,000/month.
My wife turns 66 in three weeks and her monthly retirement would be around $1,200/month.
We are thinking of applying for spousal benefit and forgo the difference so that retirement based on her earnings will increase over the next four years.
We both are planning on working for several more years.

He can still work as long as he is making 14,000 or less per year while collecting social security.
