brice0825. You can try to download the new firmware off apple’s servers here.
what do i do when i download the firmware update off thier servers
shift and restore in itunes. Select the file and away you go. Download it with firefox or IE though. Good luck.
dont i need to back up my files?
I have it and got it about 2AM. We were successful on 3 phones without a hitch. (all on Macs).
Yeah this firmware wipes the phone to the best of my knowledge so yeah backing up would be a good idea. So sync up, and off to 2.0 you go.
and aparently that file is going to take while.
The firmware will do the exact same through itunes though. It’s up to you mate.
EDIT: Oh I’d imagine it’ll take a long time, Apple are ever so slightly under pressure at the minute.
so do i need to restore and then do the shift thing once the file is done?
No. Oh good God no. Once the download is complete and you have it on your computer. You then go to itunes, plug your phone in, and hold down the shift button and click restore (while shift is held down). This will allow you to select the firmware from your computer. Select it and away it goes.
ok ill try it its at 14% any way so it will be a while
Good luck.
Let me know if the download comes down alright. There’s plenty of other people here on fluther would be interested in getting that firmware on their phones as soon as possible.
Loading the Firmware is only half the battle. I have the 2.0 firmware on my phone, but unfortunately I, like several thousand other people, am unable to contact the Apple servers to re-activate it. So I have a nice shiny paperweight sitting on my desk.
This process might have worked last night when the servers were not so busy, but I’d be really cautious applying the FW at this time unless you don’t care about temporarily bricking your iPhone.
After posting response above I tried again and got my phone de-brickified. Seems as though things are starting to move along. Now to configure Exchange support.
well this is making me nervouse If i should do it or not..
Things (for the most part) are working now, just plug it in and don’t touch it.
The update on my iPod touch was about 20 minutes. Don’t worry if it takes a long time.
um… well i pluged it in and it found an update… backed it up and started restoring it and then said error restoring and now my phone is sitting with the apple logo an the loading dial thing spining and itunes says its not hoocked up…. wat is happening
It took me from 12 p.m. til about 5 to get my phone back up and running again.
Finally it worked.
so wats happening tho… y cant i use my phone..
is this normal or wat.. .its still siting here with the little dial spining around and around
and apple stores are closed… so i cant get help… someone i really need help kinda fast.. should i unplug my phone.. and try again?
I just waited a little while, then tried to connect to iTunes again. I didn’t unplug my phone until I finally got tired of it trying to connect to iTunes, to reactivate. The servers are so busy that I had a useless phone for a few hours (I unplugged it, while I was away from my house). When I came back, I plugged it back in, and it went right to the iTunes store. Then that took a while to reactivate.
Are you up and running?
Sleeping got in the way there for a while
ill try that but idk if it will work..
and its not even reconizing my iphone… it just sits here and says no iphone or ipod is collected
and im tring to call apple right now but i hav a feeling ill be on the phone for a very long time. i kinda hav to hav my phone
