Care to share a favorite story (or stories) of Thanksgiving 2014?

I’ll start.

Rick made bread pudding. I never thought I’d like bread pudding because of the name (kind of like “head cheese”), but soon after we first got together he made some and it was YUMMY!
So, he made bread pudding for the feast. However, it got lost in the food. Was buried under other food, so it didn’t get set out for dinner.
So, after dinner I was divvying up the food and my two year old grand daughter wanted to know what “that” was.
I said, “Pudding. You want some?”
She nodded her head, so I cut a piece and stuck a fork in it and went to feed it to her. As soon as it touched her mouth she backed away saying “No! I don’t want that!”
I just shrugged my shoulders, set the fork on the counter, and proceeded to put the rest in the fridge.
Then I heard her say, “Gramma! I LOVE it!”
I turned around and she’d eaten that piece of pudding. Couldn’t get her out of the bread pudding after that. :)

I will always hear her chirpy, piping little voice exclaiming “Gramma! I LOVE it!” ♥ ♥

what day was it on?

It’s usually on Thursday but we had ours on Saturday, which was fortuitous because it was 74 degrees! It’s supposed to go into the minus digits this week.

We had a big boy turkey (22 pounds) and only a flimsy aluminum roasting pan. So there was a ton of juices from this turkey in a pan that was really not made to support such a beast. As the cook removed the turkey from the oven, try as she might, a small amount of juice spilled on to the burner, which was being used to boil potatoes, causing a small grease fire. We all started to panic, having no idea what to do, until her son came to the rescue and told us to cover it with a lid. It worked! No one was injured, the potatoes were saved, and we all learned a valuable lesson.

My girlfriend took her kids skiing at Arapaho Basin, and they were planning on picking up a takeout full on turkey dinner with all the sides from a restaurant. But it took them longer to get cleaned up and ready to go by the restaurant, and it turned out the place was closed. So they had Chinese take-out for Thanksgiving!

My son’s comment was that it was like Chinese Turkey from A Christmas Story.

We had an amazing meal. 14 different vegetables. Then we did the sledding. My nephew hit a tree. He broke the tree.

November 27th. That afernoon I was sitting miserably on my deck reading my textbook. I knew that was Thanksgivings, but I didn’t tell anyone about it because we don’t celebrate Thanksgivings here. Beside I had another thing to worry about: I didn’t know if I could finish the 320-page textbook in time for the exam. I felt rather sad that I couldn’t spend time with my grandma who had just come the other day, but I had to run against time.

Suddenly my parents called me downstair. When I came they asked me: “Do you know what day today is?”

“No” I said. I thought they were referring to something other than Thanksgiving.

“You are an English student and you don’t know? Today is Thanksgiving!” They said.

“Yeah. What about it?”

“We will celebrate Thanksgiving tonight. Call your grandma downstair and get prepared. We are going to eat out!”

I was filled with surprise and joy then. I ran as fast as I could to fetch grandma. In a few minutes we were at a restaurant. We ate a lot of things including roasted chicken (we don’t have turkeys here so that may be a nice subtitute). Grandma really enjoyed the food, although she didn’t know what Thanksgiving was. At one point she asked me why she couldn’t see me often. I said I was confined in the room all day studying. She said something that lifted my mood up drastically: “You care for your study, that’s good. But don’t push yourself too hard. I will be happy if you do well, but if you don’t that will still be fine. After all you are my granddaughter and you are good they way you are.”

That was the first (and best) Thanksgiving I’ve ever had.
