Would you drive a Prius?

Asked by Esteban1 (376points) December 6th, 2014 from iPhone

Is the fuel economy of a Prius worth driving such an unmanly car?

No. Not only is it visually drab and unappealing, it is also not nearly fuel efficient enough.
I would rather drive this:

However, I would pick a Prius over any “manly” suv or muscle car, because men with micropenises drive suvs and muscle cars.

Is this another question you want to ask only men? You might have a few minutes left to edit.

Q for you on this topic: if you equate “manliness” with your vehicle, would you rather drive a bus?

The diesel vw is cool if it were 100k cheaper.

It has nothing to do with masculinity.

Yes, definitely.

No, for two reasons.

1) I’m tall – too tall to even be able to site comfortably in a Prius. That rules me out from the start.

2) The only situation where the Prius makes economic sense is for people who have a 20–40 minute commute each way, usually in an urban environment.

Frankly, people drive Priuses because they feel holier than thou, not because they save money or make an appreciable environmental improvement.

I heard someone say it’s like driving around in a vagina. Besides that I think it’s totally ugly. I prefer to drive my ½ ton short-cab Ford Ranger pick-up truck which is functional, has a sporty look and gets 28 mpg.

canidmajor's avatar

Cuz, you know, @gondwanalon, that’s the last place any hetero man wants to be, in a vagina. :-)

gondwanalon's avatar

@canidmajor It’s very nice to visit a vagina regularly in the bedroom but not everyday for a long commute on the freeway.

Uh NO!!! But I dislike cars period ,the wife and I are trucks and suv type people her SUV gets 35+miles to the gallon not as good as a Prius but it will do.
My 4×4 gets 27+ MPG and that is fine by me.

I drive a Honda Fit. Is that “manly”? I sure hope not.

In all seriousness, what makes a car “manly”? Low gas mileage? Unnecessary noise? Difficult to park? And what is the advantage of buying a car that attracts males?

ibstubro's avatar

Hell yes. I regularly shop with a couple who drive a Prius and it’s amazing how much crap you can stuff in one of those little cars!

Esteban1's avatar

I’d get a Leaf if I cared about saving money on gas. The Prius is terrible. It’s ugly, engine keeps turning on and off, dashboard sucks, and worst of all, half of them have a coexist sticker on the back. Put me on team NO.

canidmajor's avatar

And they’re driven by boomer vegans with dogs.
Who make you do stuff.

ibstubro's avatar

The couple I shop with? He’s a large opinionated retired pipe-fitter and she’s a beer drinkin fool who’d rather hang out with the boys. They live in the country and their other vehicle is a full sized pick-up (probably at least a 250) that cost at least $80,000.

My daughter rented on to come see us for Thanksgiving, and let me drive it to the store. It was gutless. I wouldn’t want a car without any go power.

No. I would never drive any car powered by lithium-ion batteries, since rare earth mining is more environmentally destructive than any carbon dioxide emissions.

It has been shown quite comprehensively that the friendliest thing for the environment is to keep an old car running. It is cheaper, too. If raw mileage is your motivation though, go for any of the BluMotion range from Volkswagen, or an EcoBoost diesel from Ford – both of them kick the Prius for economy.

Yes, and a few years ago I almost did. But two things deterred me. One was the price—I was badly upside down on my current car loan—and the other was my concern about the limited electric range. As far as the “manly issue,” there might have been a time when I would have considered that, but at this stage in my life, such a concern never enters mind.
