Are you doing anything to nurture yourself at this busy time of year?

Since I expect to be without my family at Christmas this year and we don’t really exchange adult gifts any more, I am planning some treats for myself. Just ordered a box of indulgent foods, beauty supplies and some other things from a catalog store in Vermont. I plan to open it on Christmas morning. I will also very likely take a walk with friends and go to dinner at the Unitarian congregation. Do you have any self-nurturing or de-stressing rituals that you do around the holidays?

So glad to hear you’re doing that!
I’ve been trying to give myself breaks throughout the day, time to be alone. I also got all of my shopping done, so there won’t be any rushing around on Christmas Eve. Very happy about that, it’s a first for me!
@longgone Yes. I posted off some small things to Paris this morning and did the book exchange thingy with my book group so I am pretty much done aside from baking for work.
Glad you are doing some nice things for yourself too.
@ragingloli Should I have done an ETPro and posted it both ways?
Sounds excellent! I’d love to do what you’re doing rather than going to stressful, unwanted, holiday-torture-events, like the company party :D :D
To balance those events out, I’ve been making quick fudge to send to family members. So far I’ve made chocolate, peanut butter, chocolate-peppermint, and hazelnut, and will make toffee fudge. Why? No idea, just came across that this year and have been happily mixing up concoctions this year.
I’ll also go with the family when they go skiing- I’ll curl up and read a book in front of the big picture window, warm and cozy, while everyone hurls their body at the speed of gravity on the surface of ice with pieces of wood tied to their shoes. I have no balance, so can’t ski, but can read and watch.
@linguaphile Am I a longlost cousin, mayhaps? (Bats eyelashes furiously.)
@janbb Haha! Yep, I do have a few penguin feathers here and there. Better yet, here’s the recipe It actually works well.
I used to make fudge like that when I was a kid pre-microwave. Just melted the chocolate and stuff in a double boiler. This is even easier!
I did treat myself to a 1 Hr hot stone massage, it was AMAZING! Must make it MORE of a priority to be good to myself!!
@janbb You being in a cold climate all your life,
Im sure you would like one, give it a try sometimes.
But where would they get the hot stones?
@janbb Oooh yes, gotta do a hot stone massage. heavenly. I can send you some smooth river rocks to heat up, you just need to find the stoner to massage you. lol
I’m doing it now, a cozy day home alone, getting ready to take a long hot bath and relax.
The holidays are low key for me too so I can find plenty of time to indulge myself a bit extra if I so desire. Bubble baths, movies, good food, my favorite winter trio.
I’m eating healthy and exercising. Planned enough events in the weekends leading up. Made plans for Christmas Eve day.
My kids are with their mom from 9 am Christmas morning on, so I will be by myself on Christmas Day. I will visit my mom, but she gets tired after 15 minutes (she just turned 91). Might go to a movie Christmas afternoon.
My big celebration will be January 2nd in Colorado. That’s what I am looking forward to.
I’m getting my hair professionally dyed for the first time in 5 years. I wanna look good for all the festivities :)
I think if I was going to be alone on Christmas day I’d volunteer to help serve the meal at one of our local churches. I’m not religious but helping out someone else would lift my spirits.
“Are you going to nurture yourself at this time of year?”
Ha! Hahahahahaha
I’ll just be glad when it’s over.
I usually buy myself things throughout the year, but around December, I will put them aside and wrap them. I’m not allowed to open them till Christmas.
I’m taking the week off after Christmas. I may go away. I’m not sure.
