1. Some people learn easily when warned or advised.
2. Some learn the hard way after going through so much shit
and uphill.
3. Some never ever learn even if you go blue in the face trying
to warn, help and advise.
I fall comfortably into the second catergory! How about you?

First and second, and sometimes third, if what being stuffed into my head isn’t reasonable.
Depends on the thing. In terms of listening to my gut, I seem to be fairly thick headed. I feel like the universe is trying to teach me something and I just don’t quite get it.
With most things I heed other people’s advice about dangerous situations and pitfalls. If it makes logical sense to me I don’t need to experience it to believe it.
Sometimes the first way and sometimes the second.
I’m not sure I can be considered a reliable source, but I’ll say 1. I am easily influenced by people close to me.
Generally I am in the first category. I’ll take on board masses of information before making my own decision. It is rare that I would ignore or dismiss out of hand what someone had to say.
1 or 2, depending on what we’re talking about. I was/am a quick study at work and school, but I can also be stubborn.
A few weeks ago, I pulled a muscle in my lower back during a 145 lb squat (a weight I’ve done many times before). I knew I should take it easy and let it heal, but I was so anxious to get back to lifting and so worried about losing strength I worked so hard to gain that I’ve been pushing too hard and it’s still not healed enough to squat or deadlift heavy nearly a month later. I’m sick of it, so I decided to focus on cardio and body weight exercises next week to allow my back to heal. It’ll be hard, but no weights at all. If it’s still not better, I’m going to the doctor. This situation makes me a 2, I think.
I am firmly in category 1. To paraphrase google scholar, I try to stand on the shoulders of giants. That way I can reach higher.
I will make some mistakes along the away but that is to be expected with any action.
@LuckyGuy That phrase actually dates back to the 12th century. Which surprised me, because until just then I thought Newton was the first to use it.
Judging by past actions, I’m a category 2. At least I’ve gotten some interesting life experiences out of it.
A little bit of the second and the third depending on the problem.
I spent a goodly portion of my early life in the second category. Wised up and became a number one category member and then tried my hardest to convince both my kids that it was easier if you learned from others mistakes.
I was about 50% successful.
I myself belong in no category, don’t label me mofo :D
Wedged solidly between 1 and 2.
Yep, somewhere between #1 & #2 depending.
I’m very much a learn by trial and error type, but also possess a fair degree of common sense. Don’t tell me there is a right/wrong way to do anything, Results are all that count, not methodology.
OTOH if you tell me not to walk out on thin ice I’ll heed your advice the 1st time.
I have a tendency to learn the hard way because, at times, I am a stubborn and bull-headed person.
