Dog owners: How do you freeze your Kongs?

Asked by longgone (19767points) December 13th, 2014

…if you use them.

I seal the smaller opening with some peanut butter, freeze that, then fill and freeze the Kong standing upright in a plastic cup. Not a perfect solution, because the cups take up space and the pre-freezing is tedious.

Haven’t found a good solution, and I’m thinking there must at least be a better one…

I put mixed wet food and kibble in the large opening and just held a finger over the small opening. Then put cellophane over the whole thing – or just the top – and popped it in the freezer.

I put soft food into a ziplock bag, cut a corner off, squeeze it into the kong, and stick it in the freezer skinny side down. I’ve never had a problem with anything spilling out.

What is a kong?

Hm. Maybe my mixture isn’t solid enough… Thanks!

I pack it with corned beef and then just shove it in the freezer (no cup or bag!).. Works fine for me!

My mixture used to be very liquid because my Lab is pretty timid with her Kongs – she will lick gently and calmly, but wouldn’t really work at it.

I’ve tried a more paste-like filling now, and that worked. Didn’t leak at all. Thanks, everyone! :]
