Is this headset too big for me to wear outside? (non gamer question)

Soooo I told my boyfriend I needed some over the ear headphones a long time ago. I was going to save up to buy them myself, but I found out he bought me some for Christmas. I was really happy, but then I realized what he bought was a gaming headset – not just headphones. He said he was looking for something that was made for long wear and were very comfortable, wireless, and have good sound quality for $150 or under. So he got these:

He also wanted to get me something I can use when we play games together too (since I have a ps4). I think the gift is lovely and super thoughtful. It definitely seems like he did his research.
My only concern is that I’m worried if they’ll look goofy if I use them outside; I mean they ARE a gaming headset and they seem a bit clunky at least for a female to wear: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/32V2rL3rpsg/0.jpg

Do you think these are wearable enough to wear outside of gaming or should I still save up to buy some other earphones? I am not a heavy gamer, so I kinda want something that’ll be used for non gaming purposes. I really want to use them, they seem cool and I like the design, but I don’t want to LOOK like I’m using a gaming headset when I’m listening to music on the subway or at work.
I don’t own any over the ear headphones, so for all I know they all seem clunky to me lol. Just wanted outside opinions :)

My headphones are around that big, they may seem a bit “clunky” , but who cares if the sound quality is great and it blocks out hearing all the other noise around you.
Cool. I guess I just can’t tell if they look too much like a gaming headset. They’re pretty (I like the bright blue accent) but look very different from most headphones I’ve seen But if yours are that big, then I may be ok.
I told him I never wanted to get any beats headphones because while I know they looks sexy (omg the colors) I can’t justify spending that kind of money on headphones that are just meh. And the cheaper ones are both wired and on ear (which I find uncomfortable).
I’m not sure where you live but will you need to worry about them getting stolen as you walk outdoors? They can easily be ripped off your head by a kid on a bicycle for example.
Do you really need such fantastic quality while you are outdoors? I get concerned that people lose their situational awareness and become more vulnerable when they block out all external sounds.
@LuckyGuy I’ll mainly be using them at work and long car rides. Outdoors (like when I’m jogging or working in the yard) I’ll be using my earbuds.
When I say “outside” I mean outside of gaming in my house; the general public. Where others can see and whatnot.
Sorry, I didn’t make that clear
@cutiepi92 I imagined you using them while sitting on a train or walking on an isolated biking trail or rushing through a crowded train station and it worried me.
Sitting at your desk at work or as a passenger in a car are safe.
the question is moreso about “look” than safety. I just don’t want them too look weird on me out in public since they are meant for a different use
People may think they just got passed by Princess Lieah when you go by, Not a bad thing.
They look like the headsets the guys that drive tanks wear.
It is fine.
As a plus, they make for good ear warmers in winter. Ear warmers that play music. How cool is that?
If they are comfortable and the sound quality is good, who gives a damn what other people think, it is what YOU think that matters, there are no rules, who knows, you may start a trend.
I’ve seen people walking around wearing headphones of that size. I have a pair of Bose headphones that fold up so they go in my handbag and they’re not much smaller than those. I wear them when I’m out and about. If they’re comfy (I hate those ear bud things!) and you like the sound, wear them with pride and happiness. How lovely of your BF to spend time so carefully choosing headphones he hopes will be useful to you.
While I agree with others who have said it doesn’t technically matter what they look like if the sound quality is good, I’m still going to answer the question slightly differently, because the OP wants to know if you can tell they’re gaming headphones – not whether or not she should care if they look like gaming headphones.
The short answer is: Yes, you can tell. Both because of the PS logo, and just because of the general design. If you’re absolutely set on headphones that don’t look like gaming headphones, then yes, continue saving your money to get a different pair.
