I have a friend who keeps saying “you’re young” as a way to judge or explain my thoughts and behaviors. It bothers me so much because then he means when one gets old they become more stiff, more rational, more toward point A to B without considering the process and whats in between.
How do people change when they grow older? The general mindset? How can someone who is 21 be different from someone who is 28?

There are traditional rites of passage, or things one commonly experiences by the time they are a certain age.
Experience varies as well as personality so there is no set way a person will change. And many people are more advanced in specific areas to the deficit of others.
You choose how to balance your life. And with age and experience there are not so many firsts. So running into things blindly can be somewhat avoided. And usually we learn a degree of caution.
That doesn’t mean we are passionless or staid. Some just choose to direct those emotions in to something they value. Rather then throw it all out there for it to get needlessly savaged.
Others don’t grow or change. They usually have little to no self awareness or live in a state of denial. While child-like wonder and enthusiasm is endearing it can also be a hindrance and as I view it a waste of life.
A person who does not let experience shape them is a blank slate pretty but flimsy and unsubsititive having little or no depth. I consider it a waste of life. But regardless if a person who is older then you is a good friend chances are you benefit from each others different perspectives. The elder gets to experience vicariously the joy excitement and tumble of emotion while you learn most things the hard way. And you could benefit from being grounded cautioned a guide as it were….
