How can I best preserve this poster?

Asked by intro24 (1434points) December 26th, 2014

I have a poster that has some value already and it’s never been taken out of the cardboard tube it came in. Since I’m not into posters I want to store it without it taking damage. Is leaving it in the original tube best or is it bad for it to be rolled up so long? Any other ways to preserve the condition it’s in now?

Framing it would probably be best, if you don’t mind the expense.

Keeping it air tight somehow. Framing it or sealing it, but it has to be done correctly to preserve it.

Do not leave it in the tube. Have it professionally framed behind glass*. @Aslonggone says, it won’t be cheap but you’ll be glad you did it in the future.

* You might also want to have it dry mounted to remove the wrinkles, but talk to the framer about this.

Does it lose ‘mint condition’ or anything like that by being removed from the tube?

Have it framed professionally.

I second what @Pachy said. Have it either laminated or framed behind glass.

It is oxygen that causes the decay that you are wanted to avoid. If you remove that oxygen, your poster would last a LOT longer :) Treat it delicately until you have it framed or laminated.

Bring the poster in the tube to a frame shop (a good frame shop, not a crap one). They will advise you and handle it for you.

Also make sure it’s framed with acid free materials.
