Is it me, or is Super Monkey Ball ridiculously hard to control on the iPhone? Am I doing something wrong?
At first, I thought it was a problem with the accelerometer, but MotoRacer, Labyrinth and the other accelerometer-based games worked just fine.
It was several hours before I realised that you don’t hold the phone level and roll the monkey in the ball across the surface; you hold the phone slightly upwards, and lean the phone to the left or right to turn the ball in that direction.
Am I doing something wrong, or are the controls really this unintuitive?

yes you are doing something wrong. you are spending wayyy too much time on the iPhone :P “it was several hours before i realised….” tsk tsk rich!
I have the same problem! I think that they made the game too sensitive to the accelerometer’s movements. I’m still stuck on the 5th level or so because of how hard it is to steer. Maybe in an update they’ll make movement easier.
It’s still pretty fun!
Haha, exaggeration. I gave up after a half hour of laying on the sofa. I tried again on the bus, and I ended up getting frustrated with it. The bus itself didn’t help :)
But yeah, I hope they update it. Glad I’m not alone. It could be a really amazing game.
It’s probably just challenging enough. I’m stuck a level 6 or 7 right now.
I just checked, it’s level seven I cannot beat. The absence of training bumpers and walls cause me to fall to my death, time and time again.
I have pretty much got it, I think.
First just find the right place to hold the iphone so you just stop. Don’t tilt forward to much so you don’t go to fast, mainly because you won’t be able to turn quick enough or well enough.
Turning you can’t really stop and turn, you have to tilt forward slightly and turn.
If you end up over compensating for turns, say you nearly fall off and then turn the other way, you will likely loose control.
Take it slightly slower than if you were playing it on a console.
