SPOILER ALERT: questions on the outcome of the Hobbit movie.

Asked by filmfann (52487points) December 31st, 2014 from iPhone

Several plot points went left unresolved in the new Hobbit movie.
Was the Arksnstone returned to the Dwarves?
Were the white jewels returned to the Elves?
Did the Dwaves help the people of Laketown?
How did they make a 12 hour movie out of a remarkably short book, and still leave so much out?

According to the book, the Arkenstone was returned to the dwarves, and lay on the breast of Thorin when he was buried. If I remember correctly (too laxy to check my book), the white gems were returned to the elf king, and the dwarves did help the people of Laketown, many of whom settled in Dale.

None of those threads were tidied up @filmfann and why that is, I don’t know. We’d have to ask Mr Jackson. It is amazing that after so many hours of film, some plot points were left unresolved.

As I said elsewhere, while I enjoyed the film, the end felt rushed. Like he got bored and just said ‘enough’ and ended it.

The problem is that Peter Jackson never cared for ‘the Hobbit’ (the book) like he did ‘the Lord of the Rings’, and never wanted to direct the movies in the first place, but was finally goaded into it.

I have my issues with the ‘Lord of the Rings’ films, but at no point did I feel they were pissing on the book. I did with ‘the Hobbit’. After the first I refuse to waste my time with the other two.

Because 11.5 of those 12 hours are fight scenes.

I’ve heard that those scenes (Thorin’s funeral etc) will be in the extended edition. Which is ridiculous. Extended editions should add more on top of an already finished product, not fill in confusing gaps they should have done in the first place.
