Good insults for those of a higher class?
I’m writing a story from the perspective of a lower-class, poor person who has to interact with those of a higher class and with more wealth than him. For some reason, my mind has gone blank for words that would apply other than “snob.” And that’s not the right word. Can anyone else think of good, similar nouns?

Out of touch, clueless to the real world.
elitist, pampered, over-protected, manipulating, plutocrat
Spoiled, entitled, elitist, highbrow, snooty, uppity, arrogant, big head, pompous, conceited, smug. What’s the sentence?
@JLeslie I’m looking for a noun specifically. The character would say something like “those snobs from Alpha” but I didn’t think “snob” was the right word. It’s that feeling, where I have a feeling for what a word is (a noun, derisive, referring to the rich and elite) but I don’t know if that word exists or what it is.
Did you google a few thesaurus sites?
High fallutin snobs from Alpha?
Know it alls from Alpha?
Show offs? Full of themselves Alpharians?
@JLeslie yeah I tried to google synonyms but didn’t really find what I was looking for. I like “high fallutin” though. Might throw that in for comedic effect
Make sure I spelled it correctly. I’m not positive my spelling is right.
pro-proletariat. And I mean that in the sense that they love the proletariat because to be rich you need the poor.
“Highfalutin” (or “highfaluting”) is an adjective, as are most of the suggestions here. “Rich” is not necessarily synonymous with “elitest.”
A prig is self-righteous and moralisitic independent of his net-worth.
A “cunt” is a really nasty insult and also has nothing to do with net worth, educational degrees, or artisocratic titles.
@gailcalled “A “cunt” is a really nasty insult”
Which is what makes it so valuable. It’s one of the few words left that has the capacity to truly shock people.
Foie gras eating fucks! LOL
Rich Bitch
Wealthy Wanker
Toffee Nosed Oik
@Darth_Algar “Which is what makes it so valuable. It’s one of the few words left that has the capacity to truly shock people.”
Unless you live in the UK, where it has a different meaning.
I think, along the lines of “pleb” and “prole”, which are nouns that come from adjectives about class and how class is carried, you want something like “patrician”. The problem is, these words are almost archaic now, because we want not to believe that classes exist anymore. We don’t have a good, commonly used noun for the thing you want to express.
Of course, assuming that wealthy folk are worthy of insults simply because they are rich, hints at a degree of reverse snobbery.
Depends on the context of the relationship in the story, obviously.
Toffs would be Brit speak.
Snooty works best, when deserved.
^^ But the OP is looking for a noun, as Gail said. The snoots?
Yeah I know, no need to get all snooty ~
In what era is your story set? And where?
It would depend on who was insulting who. Calling someone elitist, bourgeois, privileged, etc. is insulting but might not be used by most. In the right situation (British) calling someone a Tory is insulting.
British terms would be snob or toff but toff is quite old-fashioned. You could add rich to bastard, rich wanker, rich dickhead, tosser or many other standard insults.
You’re up yourself. Full of your own self importance.
It’s a sci-fi story that takes place on a space station where the upper class get all the privileges (extra ration points, nicer things, bigger flats). The main character is lower class and is just really derisive of everyone in the upper class on principle. The vocabulary is for his inner monologue, or when he’s talking to his friends, if that helps. The insults could really be from any era or country, whatever. Since it takes place in the future, it’s okay if the slang sounds a little weird, and if it’s really old, it could be a throwback or something. Anything would be pretty easily explainable.
Or, you could make up a word if it’s in the future.
@JLeslie very true. the question was just because I thought a particular word existed that I couldn’t think of
In that case, those who are snooty, you might call snoots.
Plastic yuppies
Condescending hypocrite
