Would you like to give a virtual culinary gift to a fellow Jelly?

Asked by Kardamom (33494points) January 12th, 2015

I try to pay attention to what all of you like to eat. Maybe some of you recall a specific Jelly mentioning a dish, or a particular food that they like to eat.

Would any of you like to give a virtual gift of yummy-ness to one or more Jellies?

Links to photos and recipes is very welcome.

My first gift goes to @jca. It is a Caribbean Black Cake

jca's avatar

Awww, @Kardamom. Thank you! I bought the ingredients this holiday season but have not yet had a chance to make it. I’m the sure one you’re giving me is excellent! :)

Kardamom's avatar

@jca I just checked again, this one was only a photo. It didn’t have a recipe with it. How about This Recipe. It looks mighty tasty.

My second gift goes to @LuckyGuy. It is Egg and Olive Salad

jca's avatar

@Kardamom: That looks like a good recipe! I like the blog post too. I have all the ingredients – I’m feeling inspired. Part of the reason why I didn’t make it is that I had no event that I could have brought it to, and to make something like that for just my household would be a waste, or would take me two weeks to eat. Holiday parties that I went to this season were mostly catered affairs that guests did not contribute to. Hmmm, maybe I’ll mix up the fruit and soak it and do it for birthday, which is in March.

My third gift goes to @Adirondackwannabe. It is Vegetarian Spanish Rice with Peppers.

@jca Maybe your co-workers would appreciate a post Xmas (all the yummy food is gone) January surprise. I love regular fruit cake, but this stuff sounds divine.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Kardamom Amazing. Thank you. I love it. Printing it off now, I have some nieces and a nephew that would be all over this. My stepfather might even try it.

My fourth gift(s) go to @augustlan. They are Cookies and Pancakes and Cake and This.

@Adirondackwannabe It does look good doesn’t it?

Kardamom's avatar

My fourth gift goes to @ibstubro. This one is just off the top of my head, so I hope he likes it. It’s Caramelized Onion Mac and Cheese

Kardamom's avatar

My fifth gift goes to @Blondesjon. I hope he will enjoy these Drunken Cranberry Meatballs

Anybody want to send anything to me???

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Kardamom Wracking my brain to come up with something special.

jca's avatar

I have been researching to see what @Kardamom likes. So far I came up with a lot of salads.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Kardamom I’m thinking a white asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli and spinach ravioli of fresh pasta, but I need a good sauce that will compliment that without overpowering it.

chyna's avatar

Because I am not much of a cook, I will just set a beautiful table for all the wonderful foods you have shared with us over the years. This is for your table.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@chyna Screw the foods, your tables are making me drool.

Kardamom's avatar

@chyna That is so lovely. Thank you.

@Adirondackwannabe That ravioli dish sounds mouth watering.

Just so everybody knows, I love Indian food, Mexican food, Asian food, spicy stuff and anything (vegetarian) that contains cardamom. Now go!

Kardamom's avatar

You might want to PM some of your Jelly friends too, to find out what they like. Then we can have a real party.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Kardamom How about a pesto sauce? We could go wild with it.

Kardamom's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Ooooooooy yeah! Kardamom loves her some pesto.

Kardamom's avatar

I really need to get myself a food processor so I can make some pesto. We used to have a small one, but it didn’t do a very good job and it was so loud. Need to invest in a real, regular sized food processor. Anyone have any recommendations?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I have a Rival immersion blender that would work well for pesto. Or the same brand processor but I don’t use it much..

Kardamom's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe I do have an immersion blender. Maybe I don’t need a food processor after all. I mostly use it for soup, but if it works for pesto, then yay!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I think it should. Mine would do it I think.

jca's avatar

I found a dessert. If you know me, you know I love dessert. This is an Indian dessert that uses fresh apples and cardamom. Check it out:

Kardamom's avatar

@jca Oh boy! That does sound tasty. I love halva. Never heard of it made with apples before.

@Adirondackwannabe I’m pretty sure mine will do it too. Just never thought of it. Thanks : )

jca's avatar

@Kardamom: Maybe we can both make it this weekend, eat it and let each other know how we like it. Maybe we can all try some other recipes mentioned here, and discuss here, like a party except we’re all in our own spots.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Kardamom Hey, I never thought of that ravioli filing till we talked. Now I’m wanting to try it so bad. Thank you. :)

dappled_leaves's avatar

For you, @Kardamom, I will give a list of recipes from one of my favourite kitchen stores, and offer a free translation of anything you might find worthy of attempting.

Kardamom's avatar

@dappled_leaves I think I should like to try This Recipe. Despite my French heritage, I don’t speak a word of French.

@jca Oh Em Gee! That looks good!

@Adirondackwannabe Bustin’ out the immersion blender. Might have to use it for something else though : P

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Kardamom Don’t be getting kinky on me. :)

jca's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe: My thoughts exactly!

@Kardamom: For a cold winter’s night (which I know you don’t have much of where you live, but still…..), here’s a warming drink for you: Spiced hot chocolate with cardamom: Indian, of course.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@jca We are too much alike. :)

Coloma's avatar

I shall give my dinner tonight. A superb organic chicken linguica sliced and grilled up with zucchini, yellow crookneck squash and red and orange pepper strips. Seasoned with Italian seasoning, garlic and white pepper and served over an olive oil and garlic anointed linguine. Oh man….my friends were raving.

jca's avatar

It sounds good, @Coloma. I’d like that right now. I had a bagel for dinner so chicken in any form makes me hungry! I don’t think the OP eats meat, though.

ibstubro's avatar

Yum, @Kardamom.

I thought we were trading kitchen ‘stuff’ and I’d already looked that up for you.

Good, just bake longer. Likely a repeat.

Kardamom's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Speaking of electronic gadgets. I found out accidentally, that if you are using an orbital sander, whilst sitting atop the piece of material that you are sanding, say like a door set upon saw horses that needs sanding, wonderful things can happen : ) That’s not kinky, just good luck.

Mimishu1995's avatar

For @Kardamom (don’t worry there’s no meat here)

For @Adirondackwannabe (not sure that’s what you want but…)

For @Coloma

For @ibstubro

The others: I’m sorry I don’t know what you like. Maybe you can get some of what I’ve given?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Mimishu1995 Nailed it. I love those. Is that sweet and sour sauce?

Mimishu1995's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe yeah. Fish sauce with sugar and chili, to be exact.

@ibstubro glad you enjoy it :)

Kardamom's avatar

@Mimishu1995 Thanks, that looks delish!
