Is there an App, to use your P.C as a E-Reader?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23428points) January 12th, 2015

A friend was wondering if he could use his P.C to read Ebooks.
So is there an App you can download to say Windows7 so you can read ebooks on your computer?

Calibre , works on multiple platforms.
Amazon also has a pc version of their Kindle reader as well.

That’s not the question to ask. The real question is: Where is your friend getting his ebooks from?

Each of the major ebook providers does its own style of DRM (digital rights management). Amazon Kindle uses one flavor of DRM, the Nook uses another, Overdrive ebooks a different one, and so on and so forth.

A generic reader (like Calibre) is fine for non-DRM titles, but will fail on “secured” files.

Which brings me back t the question – where are the ebook files coming from?

One can easily purchase e-books in one format and convert them into another format. There’s even a website that will do the conversion for you.

@elbanditoroso I don’t think he really thought that one out,I guess what ever one provides the most reasonable prices , and free ebooks.

I have a Nook reader from Barnes and Noble, but I’ve also downloaded the app to run on my laptop. I do not have an Amazon Kindle reader, but I have downloaded their app, as well, which also runs on the laptop.

Both of those were free.

It has been a long time, but I also downloaded old books from the Project Gutenberg website and used a generic e-reader for them. Also a free download.
