Other than "a" is there a single lower case letter in the English alphabet that qualifies as a word?

Specifically, why doesn’t spellcheck highlight the uncapitalized “i”.
I would be a lot less likely to use text-speak if “u” was called out as not a word.
R u sure?

Possibly because some people write equations into documents? The lowercase i would show up frequently in that context. But I think Word does actually spellcheck the lowercase i into uppercase, and as I’m writing this, I’m being corrected also.
Standard spellcheck, @dappled_leaves, like on Firefox.
I didn’t know that Word would spellcheck here.
?
By “here” I meant as I type using this browser, which for me is IE, not Firefox.
Perhaps I need to give IE another go?
I agree that Word is different, spellcheck wise.
Okay, @dappled_leaves, I am using and referring to Firefox.
Gotcha.
Pro tip: never say anything nice about IE on Fluther. It’s practically a crime here.
@dappled_leaves IE is a crime in and of itself.
Well, O is a word all by itself. e is a mathematical constant. I use k as a one letter response.
I think “e” as Euler’s number is about it. The other ones when lower case can only be used to refer to the letter itself, e.g. “there are four u’s in Scrabble”. Even then it’s often capitalized.
“O Little Town of Bethlehem”, “O Come All Ye Faithful”, and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” all have o s in them standing alone.
@dxs: “o” as in orgasm. LOL
Plenty in “text speak”
“b” = Be
“f” = female, F**k,
“h” = hugs
“r” = are
“y” = yawn
“k” = ok

Fluther founders both called out and used text-speak. Go figure. I’d [prefer to] use it less if spellcheck highlighted it.
@dxs The question says lower case, though. That use of “O” is always capitalized.
How about “eeeeeeee” as in seeing a mouse scurry by or stepping in dog poop? lol
I concur with @zenvelo and @dappled_leaves about IE, about which I find only one positive thing to say: it’s not as horrible as Word.
As to the original query: aside from “a”, I am aware of no other lower case single letters that comprise a stand alone word, at least in English. Lower case letters that appear in scientific and mathematical equations don’t count because they represent specific things, such as i representing the square root of -1 in complex numbers and e as either Euler’s number or the base of natural logarithms, depending on context.
@sahID You’re not concurring with me. I like IE, I have just come to expect no end of abuse from Fluther for it.
I…oops, that’s uppercase.
i? For someone who works for Apple? :P
o y r u n a t p? u r 2 b I c!
@dominicX I see now. When I posted it, I couldn’t find a definition for it so I thought I’d throw it out there. I just had to scroll down.
By doing that, I also found o’, an abbreviation for of. Maybe this will work.
