If you were ever in a severely dire situation could you ever bring yourself to drink your own urine?

I do not have to drink my own urine.
I can always give myself a urine enema instead.

Drink the pee

In the most dire situation you could find yourself doing almost anything if it meant staying alive.
Stealing, killing,and yes drinking your own urine.
Most of us will never find ourselves in that kind of a situation so we say oh no,but if it came right to it we would.

I wouldn’t drink it un processed. I would distill it first.

I would do so much grosser things than that to stay alive.

Be just like drinking sherry, so no…you taking the piss soft lad? :D

WE would not; I would say my last prayers and go off to the sweet by and by. There is no way in Sam Hell, I would knowledgably drink urine, mine, someone else’s, some animal, just ain’t gonna happen. :-|

I have done it. Not out of need, just out of curiosity. It isn’t great but it is better than eating mushrooms. I really hate mushrooms.

But right down to it,if it meant life or death you would ,any of us would.

Unprocessed urine is likely to kill you slowly. You’re body uses water to get rid of waste products of respiration in urine. If you are dehydrated your body will have used the absolute minimum water needed to get rid of the waste. By drinking it you’re getting the waste back as well as the water so you you’re just adding to the stuff your body needs to get rid of but the water in the urine won’t rehydrate you as your body will use it preferentially to get rid of waste.

I think of the guy who was stuck in the canyon in Utah for about 5 days, no food, no water, his arm pinned between a boulder and the canyon wall. Hot sun, starving with only a little camping knife, he amputated his own arm and drank his urine to survive. He had one burrito in his pocket or something – that was all the food he had. After amputating his arm, he ran and found some hikers who got help for him. Who would be able to imagine cutting off their own limb with a camping knife and drinking their urine to survive? He had no choice, unless he wanted to die. It’s difficult to say hypothetically what we would or would not do in dire circumstances, until actually faced with the situation in real life.

This guy does it even when he’s not in a dire situation. He says you should too.

Totally agree @jca until we are in that situation we really don’t know what we would do, but in a real life or death choice, I think it would be amazing what we could find ourselves doing to survive.

I am sure that could be said of many things, even things people would deem unthinkable, but then, one could say the situation that would make them choose one or the other was not prevalent so it is hard to say of they are genuine or not. But I am sure of that, I could not get you to understand because you might be one who believes you have to hang on to this life because this is as good as it is going to get. I believe this is just a phase and better is to come, so giving this up is a gain not a loss. If it is His will I die trapped in a cave, then I die trapped in a cave, if I am to be rescued, then I will.

Nope, death has no real hold on me because I know where I am going after here, of course, that is something you don’t understand and maybe never will.
