Airports can be places of both joy and pain. Have you seen more people crying or overjoyed at big airports you have been to?

Walking round airports anywhere, have you seen more people crying due to goodbyes or happy due to arrivals? Any touching airport stories?

Overjoyed by reunions generally since you tend not to see the partings much due to security lines.

One of the things that makes me sad about not having a partner is not having someone I love picking me up when I come home from a trip.

Both and depends on whether the flight is on time, delayed or canceled.

I have experience both myself at airports.

My 21 year old daughter made the ghastly decision to move her and her 5 year old son to Washington state. Talk about rip your heart out. Her son was more my son, and a little brother to the other two kids. He was everyone’s darling.
At one point at the airport, before we got to the get naked for a strip search point, my 15 year old daughter froze, grabbed on to a rail, and said, “Mom….I can’t do this.”
I took a deep breath and said, “Neither can I,” and grabbed her arm and marched on. One of the worst days of my life, saying good by to my grandson/son, not knowing if I would ever see him again.

Four months later they came back! We could hardly stand up for the hugging and crying and laughing. I took him home at that point and didn’t let him go for two weeks!

Happy! By far.

I have rarely encountered either. Mostly I just see bored people at airports.

It used to be both, but since 9/11, people cannot join their friends to the gates, and usually just drop them off in front of the airport terminal. Those picking up friends can wait at baggage claim, though, so airports now have more joy than pain, if you don’t count the TSA screening.

I figure for every person crying because someone is leaving, that’s balanced out at their joy in seeing them again.
