What is the pain around my belly button?

Asked by kimchi (1442points) January 25th, 2015

It all started yesterday. There is a dull pain near my right top belly button. It does not hurt when I walk, but when I lay down on my back, that certain part hurts. What is this?

Does it hurt topically or internally? Sounds like it is your intestine but it could be a muscle. Because it is positional that makes more sense to me. Did you workout or engage in physical activity or contort it oddly?

Yesterday I went to the gym to workout. When I press on it, it hurts a lot! Also, I have a lot of gas in my stomach…. I find the need to burp frequently.

My mom thinks it is because of the posture I kept repeating for a few days. I sat down a lot because I studied, and while I was watching Korean Dramas, my posture resulted in my belly being “squished.” What are your opinions?

Gas can cause pain. Walking being hydrated eating fiber and possibly taking digestive enzymes or probiotics should help if there isn’t a bigger problem such as IBS or digestive disorder. Also digestive teas work well too like yogi or traditional medicine are good brands peppermint and licorice or raspberry are soothing if you can’t find those brands.

If it is a muscle massaging gently muscle spray alternating cold and hot packs.

If the problem persists or gets worse I would get a recommendation for a gastroentrologist. Keeping a log of food that aggravates it if that’s the case is helpful to bring in as well.

@kimchi What you are describing is pretty close to how I felt when I suffered an umbilical hernia. Any change in the shape or look of your belly button? Don’t seek medical advice here… go see your doctor.

Stop watching Korean dramas. That’s the connection.

Bottom line, none of us can diagnose you over the internet.

@Cruiser Hernia was my first thought, too. I agree that the OP should see a doctor.

If the pain continues to get worse, you should go to the ER to rule out Appendicitis. The fact that it’s on the right side is a bit troubling since that’s where Appendix pain starts.

You reallly don’t want to have to deal with the results of a burst Appendix. Infection galore.

If in doubt don’t hesitate to get checked in the ER. There’s no possible way we can diagnose you over the Internet.
