Is there a business or establishment that you no longer frequent for a particular reason?
What is it? Why don’t you go there anymore? Do you ever miss it?
I don’t go to Chick-Fil-A anymore because of their whole anti-same sex marriage thing. But, man, I really miss their food sometimes.
I also don’t go to this one restaurant anymore because the stupid waitress served a ginormous (family-sized) bowl of steaming hot soup over our infant carrier. Which I had specifically asked them not to do.

I no longer frequent my nearest cinema, they tore it down so that’d be unwise.
That’s okay though, there’s a better one just down the road…which is nice.
There is a liquor store near my house that used to get a lot of my money.
Burger King. Because of their idiotic commercials. I especially despised the ones that featured that violent mother.
Also, there was a liquor store we frequented several times a week for two years. They were the only one we went to in town. However, I once wrote a check that was returned. I went in to make the check good with cash, and they tacked on an additional $30 for no reason. The check wasn’t sent to a collection agency or anything. They kept it in house. Never went there again.
Arbys. Last time I ate their I got sick. I don’t like roast beef slices that don’t have some fat and gristle. Also I don’t like their liquid cheese.
Crapplebees. They have crappy service.
@Dutchess_III – Just an FYI, the store gets charged a returned check fee from their bank. You probably got charged from your bank as well. They were merely recouping their fees from you. Bounced checks cost everyone.
Why didn’t they explain that to me when I asked about the charge? They just kind of shrugged their shoulders. It was the owner, BTW.
@Dutchess_III – They probably should have. I know most of my customers and they have a better chance of getting me to give them credit til Friday than they do of getting me to accept a check. I suspect the owner merely didn’t want to deal with the issue. His loss.
In the 4 years that I owned the mower shop I was only given one bad check, and that was by another business. I just don’t recall getting hit with a returned check charge on my account.
What I did was just kept calling his bank everyday, until they said the funds to cover it were in the account, and I went down and cashed it.
There are about 6000 banks in the US. I suppose its possible that there is one out there that doesn’t charge for bounced checks but I’m not aware of one.
It’s just odd that I don’t remember it. I mean, I’m fanatic about my money, especially when I don’t have any!
I know it will come as no surprise but banks have a way of making money on everything. The charge that surprised me the most was when I discovered they were charging me for depositing too much cash. I would have never believed that until I saw it. I wanted to change banks but soon discovered that they were not alone, the other banks I checked charged for too much cash as well. I found a way around it but that seemed as though it should be illegal. Alas and alack, it’s not.
Russel’s Ribs in Groton, Connecticut. We moved away from Connecticut many years ago, I’ve heard they closed a couple years ago. Fabulous smoked ribs and meats.
Bullwinkles… they had pizza and chicken better than Little Caesars and KFC. They closed their Canadian stores I liked their video games.
@Jaxk @Dutchess_III That happened to me once. We don’t allow checks at my store, but one time a regular customer asked me to make an exception. She went on and on about how she lost her bank card and only had checks for a couple days. (This was someone who came in every day to buy the same bottle of wine.) I started to get the feeling that she wouldn’t leave unless I sold her a bottle of wine. So I went against the store policy and took the check, and yep- it bounced. Luckily she was willing to cover the check and the fee once I explained it to her.
Anyway, I stopped going to the Dunkin Donuts near my house. Sometimes I would pop in there for coffee and a bagel on the way to work. But- this is so weird- no matter what coffee drink you order, they ask if you want cream and sugar. That includes mochas and flavored lattes, which are already sweet and are made out of milk.
One time I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and I was slow on the uptake. So I just went “ok, sure” when they asked if I wanted cream and sugar in an iced mocha. My first sip of the morning was like nothing but sugar crystals. There was a half inch of it in the bottom of the cup.
So the next time they asked, I said no cream and sugar. The iced mocha I got was clear. It was just espresso, chocolate syrup, and ice water.
The next time I said, “can you make it normal?” and got coffee-chocolate-ice water again. It was different employees every time. I’m not mad, just totally baffled. I have no clue how to get a normal iced mocha there. So I stopped going.
Hobby Lobby. I didn’t go in there much anyway, but learning about some of the charities they give to and religious views. I’d much rather give my money to Michael’s.
I won’t go to Applebee’s because it is the worst of the chains in a similar category. Blech.
Amost all fast food restaurants here. Since a TV news made a speculation that fast food restaurants in my place was using leftover oils and rotten meat/chicken, my family has stopped going there. And we kind of find some more new restaurants that sastify our need.
There are two fast food restaurants in town that I no longer frequent. One is Arby’s because of the subtle discrimination I encountered the last time I stopped in, and their food is substandard.
The other is Burger Stop, a locally owned burger joint. The last time I ate there, I sat at a table that allowed me to look into the front part of the kitchen, and I was horrified. It was early afternoon, the lunch rush was winding down . . . and still the (I assume) co-owner was still frying up burger patties and stacking them in uncovered steam table containers on the back of the grill. At the same time, she was flipping burgers with her left hand while wiping down the prep area next to the counter with a commercial bleach solution with her right hand. (The gallon jug of cleaner was standing near the grill with its cap off. I never went back.
