Do you address your friends or others as, "bro?"?

I address some male friends my age as “bro” sometimes, but not often and I prefer “dude”. I get called “bro” much more often than I call others it.

My brother signs his e-mails “bro” which I find very affected and annoying. It is not part of my lexicon but I suspect I am not in that cultural demographic.

Even when I was in a fraternity in college, I never used that term. I would use the term “brother” but never “bro”.

I use that on the net all the time, because I’m a fuckin idiot. Never in real life though. I would, but I mostly speak French. Wouldn’t be the same, broski.

No. After someone I know – who was in the Coast Guard – got out officially, he started calling me “bro” in conversation all the time, and it pissed me off a lot. It annoyed me before then, but I absolutely can’t stand it now.

I refer to male friends as mate, marra, bud, lad.
Female friends usually by their name or nickname.

No. But I had a couple guys I served with that used the term Bro alot. I usually called guys by their warrior name, or Dude.

What I hear a lot in Montréal is people calling their friends ’’holmes‘‘. Seems to be the equivalent of dude, buddy or man.

Bro has a kind of early 90s feel to it, and I don’t hear it too much these days.

I use “dude” for all kinds of people, male and my female. One of my female friends and I say dude so often that it’s basically punctuation at this point.

Recently, it seemed like Dude wasn’t getting the job done anymore. It just didn’t go far enough. Around that time, bruh started showing up out and about in daily life. So now when something noteworthy happens, we’re like, “BRUHHHH.”

I can’t even tell if we’re being sarcastic anymore.

My brother calls me bro at times. I like it. We’ll be barbequing his birthday meal in a few days. He and I do the grilling, usually in the snow. It’s a special bonding time.

@Symbeline “homes” is slang shorthand for homie or homeboy.

Unless they are saying “hommes”, which is French for men (gents).

Nah this is in English. and I know what hommes means, the S is also not pronounced :p

I sometimes say sarcastically ‘cool story bro’ as I understand that this street talk. Usually I’m trying to embarrass my 13 year old (always successfully; it’s just too easy…)

Sometimes I refer to my girl friends as “sis” or “sister.” More likely at work, when we really are sisters according to the type of work that I do. Not very often do we use that term, but sometimes. Guys, no term, usually. Sometimes as a joke, to people who will comprehend, I say “what up cuz, what up cuz, what up GANGSTA.”
