What elegant foods would you want served if you were attending figure skating competition party?

Asked by Kardamom (33525points) February 1st, 2015

This Q is based upon this question and the fact that I hate football and would never attend a Superbowl party.

I have neither hosted, nor attended a figure skating competition party, but I love watching figure skating competitions on TV and I love to eat.

If I had a party, I think I’d want more elegant foods served, rather than the traditional Superbowl favorites.

Would any of you come to my party?

Got any ideas on what foods to serve?

Salmon dip.

@Dutchess_III What would you like to dip into the salmon dip?

jaytkay's avatar

Roasted shrimp. Really quick and easy to make but soo much better than the usual cold thawed shrimp with cocktail sauce.

Use raw, thawed shrimp. Mix with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper. Bake at 400 F until the shrimp turns from blue-grey and translucent to white and pink and opaque (6 to 8 minutes).

Townhouse crackers.

Tea sandwiches; my favorite two word combination in the whole world.

Smoked salmon and capers on brown bread
Cream cheese on date nut bread
Egg salad for those who swing that way
Lobster salad on mini-brioche
And of course:
Cucumber on white bread

And while we’re at it we might as well have:
Scones with clotted cream, strawberry preserves and lemon curd

Washed down with pots of hot Darjeeling tea

Tickle your fancy?

Vanilla…ice, ice baby
Triple salchow burger
Pirouette praline
Somersault sausages

Janbb, You need some sprigs of fresh watercress on at least the cucumber ones,

janbb's avatar

@gailcalled Jolly good suggestion!

Why does the food have to be elegant? I like figure skating and chips & guacamole.

You can put everything on ice. Shrimp, caviar, ice cream, sorbet, champagne…

Kardamom's avatar

@janbb I love British Tea Sandwiches.

@tinyfaery Because I’m trying not to do the same kind of party, with the same kinds of foods, as a Superbowl party.

@ucme Ha ha ha : )

@Kardamom Did you need a link after my elegant description? :-)

Kardamom's avatar

@janbb No I didn’t need a link, my mouth started watering and I needed to have a look at those sammiches.

Fried spam sandwiches?

Berserker's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe I love spam sandwiches.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Symbeline Careful, the villagers will be out with pitchforks and torches if that gets out.

Berserker's avatar

I’ll use a torch to heat up my spam lol.

I used to love me some Spam back in the day. I think it was @ibstubro who recently asked if there would be a market for a vegetarian version of Spam. I’d totally eat that.

This Spam Sushi looks very tasty and very elegant. And here’s some that’s Deep Fried

What time of day? If it’s daytime I like the smoked salmon with capers idea. Brown bread, white toast points, and bagels. A lot of people like creme fraiche with that, even though I don’t.

Mixed spring salad and romaine with two dressing options. Probably a balsamic vinaigrette and a rasberry vinaigrette.

If it’s early I would turn it into a brunch like menu adding a baked French toast in a casserole to what is already listed above with choice of real maple syrup on the side and maybe a berry syrup also.

Fresh fruits including berries, melons, pineapple, or whatever us in season.

Chicken salad.

Roasted veggies: eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, peppers.

Mimosa, especially if it’s day time. Fresh orange juice. Sangria. Assorted sodas, iced tea, and water. Hot tea and coffee.

Dessert is an assortment of cookies, gelato, and a coconut chocolate cake.

@JLeslie you’re getting me all flushed.

Oooh sushi sounds great. As does the roasted shrimp salad dip and tea sandwiches in fact I love most of these ideas!!!

But I also like bruschetta, artichokes and colrabi with a dip.

Macroons, berries and cut fruit for dessert

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Macaroni and Cheese with Lobster chunks.

Macaroons with slivered Almonds

Haleth's avatar

@janbb All of that sounds delightful!

Crepes are elegant and you can put anything in them. You could put together a vaguely French bistro kinda menu, like quiche lorraine with green salad, cheese fondue, macaroons, or chocolate mousse.

One of my favorite appetizers is fancy finger food- like cheese, prosciutto, fig spread, paté, olives, artichokes, etc. with really good French bread.

A figure skating watching party is an awesome idea, BTW!

This Spam Sushi looks very tasty and very elegant

Musubi (Spam “sushi”) was always available at the Asian grocery stores when I lived in south bay LA.

Japanese culture crossed the Pacific and was bounced halfway back to the islands and bounced back to California.

Musubi is so beautiful.

Bologna and ketchup sandwiches on white. Saltine crackers with easy cheese. Wash it down with MD 20/20.

I love the idea of a ice skating party. It sounds pleasant and a great ladies day in.
