Do you think Mr. Barrow did it in Downton Abbey?

Mr Barrow? Started a fire?
He’s a wheel hot suspect.

It was Lady Edith who threw a letter part-way into her fireplace; it ignited and spread. While Thomas Barrow certainly has his problems, the fire was not his doing. He actually saved Lady Edith’s life by pulling her out of the smoky and burning room.

It was all spelled out plainly in the first episode of season five. Barrow was the hero.

I wouldn’t put it past him in general, put I think there would have been clues by now.

I wish they’d hurry up with season six.

That had occurred to me as a possibility but as @gailcalled says, it showed you how the fire started from the letter.

Yes, Edith started it. The controversy is that Mr. Barrow was only available to save Edith because he was a lookout for his buddy that was having a roll in the hay with his old boss, who was a guest at the house.

Also, Thomas isn’t first footman, he’s the under butler, a title that was given to him because he was no longer the earl’s valet, and he needed a position that had the same “rank” as valet. They kind of made it up just to keep him on.

Mr. Moseley is first footman from what I’ve heard tell! :-)

Edith started the fire by accident! Barrows just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I love that show!!
