Have you ever used a single product so long that you had trouble adapting to a replacement?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) February 3rd, 2015

I have used Schick disposable razors to shave my face for 20+ years, exclusively. They changed the design and doubled the price in the past year.

I have found a replacement that shaves even closer for ⅓ the price. The problem? They have the new mantis-body designed handle with comfort grips, etc., etc. I’m on my 3–4 week using them and it’s still awkward getting the angle/grip right and know where to trim to.

Have you ever had this problem with a discontinued product? Did you keep at it until you learned something completely new, or did you resort to finding a product with the closest physical characteristics, regardless of price/performance?

I was a Microsoft Excel expert. I was using it on the Macintosh before the Windows version existed.

They arbitrarily re-arranged the entire interface with Office 2007. Some tasks still take me longer than they did with Excel 2003.

My teeth… I got fillings and it’s hard to adapt it feels like my teeth would break if I used them.

Yes, all the time. I am a bit of a Luddite. Still no smart phone, no tablet, no e-reader. But I am hoping for driverless cars.

The first thing I thought of was Microsoft as well. I learned Microsoft Word 98, or something like that. I still haven’t been as savvy with the new versions as I was with the one I learned. To make things worse, I haven’t used Word 98 in so long that I might not even be as good at that anymore.

My old cellphone. It is something like this. The usage is pretty straight-forward and I can do what I want quickly with it. Although some people complain that the screen is so small and the webpage interface is horrible, I still use it to surf the web regularly. A while ago I upgraded my phone to a smart-phone, but I find Android so confusing. Even worse, there are some functions that my old phone has but the new phone lacks. I still have to use two phones, one for calling and one for entertainment.

@Mimishu1995, I’m still holding tight with this. lol

@ibstubro My grandmother has a razor!
I have this one: a slide—slightly more modern. But who would pay $59 for it on eBay? It was free with a plan!

Thankfully, I have already bought a back-up Razor in case something happens to this one! @dxs Plan ahead to stay behind. Probably the same market for your phone on Ebay (where my extra Razors came from).

I have at least 6–8 of these. (note the megapixels) 20 year old technology I’m afraid will be unavailable if mine breaks (again). I have experience an every accessory offered.

This was a recent score! I had one I wore for about 15 years and when it died I had a heck of a time replicating it! I have a couple now, after a year or so of persistence.

@ibstubro It’s not that big of a deal for me. In fact, if a smartphone becomes affordable, I’d love to invest in one.
