Can you put granite on top of thick, ugly kitchen tiles?

I’d be on Cloud 9 if I could cover up these disgusting, dark brown and charcoal colored tiles I was told are marble tiles? They are not level like granite; they have highs and lows and grout. I guess not but is there a chance I could? I want creamy colored granite, something cheerful and bright. ahhhhh….

Probably the current countertops or at least the tiles would have to be removed, but you would have to get a consult. Some places, like Granite Transformations, specialize in installing it over the current surface
My understanding is that the glues used to hold the granite top on are much more effective on a specific type of underlayment – flat, but with a little grain to increase the surface bonding area and make sure it sticks permanently.
A tile (ugly disgusting dark brown) is impermeable and my guess is that it doesn’t have the same bonding characteristics as the “right stuff”.
You could probably get someone to do the work, but they probably wouldn’t give a good guarantee that it will hold for very long.
Go with REAL Granite and not granite like cover-ups like @marinelife mentions. Yes the old has to off and you may have to replace sink and associated plumbing. (The mounting would have to be changed at least.) We looked into doing our counter top in kitchen, it came out a $6700. Here’s an on-line calculator for Granite Counter Tops, just put in the square footage of counter nand your zip code.
You need to have the old stuff removed. Talk to anyone who does granite countertops and they can advise you. You can go to Home Depot, Lowes, a granite fabricator, etc.
