Would you apply again for a job you were rejected for if the rejection happened a year ago ?

Asked by chinchin31 (1884points) February 5th, 2015

Okay so this job opportunity recently came up.

It was a job I interviewed for with the same company a year ago and was rejected without much explanation.

I really feel like the job would be perfect for me.

Would you apply again just to see what might happen?

What have you got to lose?

If you think you’ve learned or grown professionally in the past year, sure. You may have rectified whatever made you unfit one year ago.

Sure I was turned downed 3 times once for a job but kept after them and finally got it.
If you really want the job keep after it.

No, they blew their chance, their loss.

Yes. The job still appeals to you. Why not? There’s a lot of luck-of-the-drawer in the interviewing process. Last time someone with much better skills or experience might also have applied or perhaps they had connections to the company or had already worked in that role. Who knows why you didn’t get the job.

It’s open again so either the person left or there’s a second position. You got an interview last time so they saw something that appealed. Go for it and good luck.

A few months ago, I had been hired for a job that was to start later that month. I was currently working at another job. It was a Friday, and I went into an interview for what was to be a third job. At the interview, we shook on my hiring and they gave me a list of possible hours. I was really interested in this job. That weekend, I left my current job (it wasn’t worth my time/frustration), and told the job that hadn’t started yet that I wasn’t gong to be working there (I was more interested in the third job I was going to get). On Monday, I received an e-mail from the third job, the one I was most interested in, saying that they were not going to hire me. There are more details but I left them out because it’s lengthy and I’ll probably be biased anyways.
A few weeks later, they e-mailed me saying they had spots to fill and were interested (again) in hiring me. I was so desperate that I responded again, saying I was interested. They never answered back. Rejection really isn’t new to me, but I felt like an idiot after this. So, I ended up with no job.

cool… I actually found out that it is the same company but a different team so sounds a possibility :)
