Have you ever seen the documentary "Food, Inc." ?
If so, what did you think of it? I was only able to manage ⅔ds of the way through as the sections on factory farming were too much for me to bear. Even though I knew that a lot of that happened, watching it made me sob.
Beyond that, the rest was very informative and eye opening. It’s scary how much the government controls so much we put into our bodies.
Here is a short summary of the film if you haven’t seen it.
“The film examines corporate farming in the United States, concluding that agribusiness produces food that is unhealthy, in a way that is environmentally harmful and abusive of both animals and employees. ”

I have not, but I have seen animal rights videos from groups like PETA. The videos are very upsetting and hard to watch. The manner in which these animals die (terrified, hearing the screams of other animals that are being slaughtered) is extremely hard to watch. Seeing the sick animals dragged and kicked, and seeing the healthy animals punched in their faces and stuff like that is traumatizing to see.
Yes, I watched it a few years ago, maybe 3–4. Nothing I didn’t already know and cut it off before the end because I wasn’t aware how much graphic footage was involved. I considered it “overkill”, if you will. Everybody has some degree of awareness of the cruelties involved in most FF practices, I don’t need it shoved in my face.
I’m a strange sort of person in that I want to know and see as much as I can take. I am not sure why. Part of it is that it shocks me into keeping to my standards of what I choose not to eat. It’s easy to “forget” or rationalize things after awhile.
@anniereborn Do what I do, save a farm animal. haha
I have a beloved 17 yr. old goose that I raised from a baby. As you can imagine I am totally opposed to the foie gras industry and “Marwyn” along with his disabled goosie pal “Sonora” and his 2 ducky friends ( Lucy & Fonzie” have been the poster geese/ducks for many flyers we have sent out to restaurants and chefs, showcasing what intelligent, long lived and wonderful pets geese and ducks can be.
We have had many positive responses and several chefs taking foie gras off their menus, including a large casino in Las Vegas last year.
I don’t really have the resources to save a farm animal, so I save cats instead. But I do what I can in being vegetarian and trying my best with some veganism.
@anniereborn Cats are good too, I love cats, my 2 are rescues.
My point is do what you can for cats of ducks or whatever…every little act of kindness counts.
No. But like @jca, I have watched some animal right documentaries. So far the best is Earthling. It’s just so disturbing to see how animals are treated in those slaughter houses.
I’ll save “Earthling” for when I need a reason to kill myself.
@anniereborn Against my better judgement I watched the first 15 minutes or so last night via @Mimishu1995 link. Don’t, just don’t. It starts off with pets, trust me…just don’t go there, you already KNOW, as I do, the atrocities out there.
